The brave never abandons their culture.

We, the youth are the future citizen of our country which represent a highly dynamic, energetic
and serves as the building blocks in the development of the Philippines. Youth is the age where
there is a will for creativity and to do something new. We, are the most enterprising and
productive segment of the economy and our efforts can help in the rapid growth of our nation.
Regarding to preservation of Filipino Culture and tradition, the role of the youth is simply to
renew, refresh and maintain. The future of our remaining heritage will depend largely on the
decisions and actions of the present generation of young people who will soon become the
leaders and decision-makers of tomorrow.
According to Yoruba Dictionary, Culture are people’s custom or way of life that is passed from
one generation to the other. Similarly, a tradition is a belief or behavior passed down within a
group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past.

In today’s world, young people position in cultural values and heritages are completely
spectatorship. Modern Filipino youths are drowned in the deep-sea of civilization, religion and
technology at the detriment of our rich culture.
I am of the opinion that we cannot preserve, develop and or precisely promote any idea if we are
not first proud of it. If you will rate yourself, how proud are you being a Filipino? How many of
us are dressed in traditional attire on his/ her facebook profile picture? How many bother, at least
occasionally, to speak and be identified with our ear-friendly dialect? How many of us spread the
news of cultural tradition and festivals in our social media? How many of us will still call our
future children with Filipino names like Pedro, Makisig, Juan, Jose or Ruperto? And finally, if
we have the whole resources in the world, how many of us will invest on the preservation of our
culture and tradition?
It is said that if the youth unite, they can change the direction of the wind. They have the power
to implement the change for a better nation.
The Filipino Culture is one of the reasons why we are proud to say that we are Filipino, we have
something that the other nations do not have. Our culture could not only be learned through
study alone, we need to practice it on ourselves every hour of everyday. It is also one of the
reason why foreigners keep on coming back to our country, Filipino hospitality is at its finest.
For me, we need to avoid the adaptation of other countries culture because by adapting their
culture we tend to forget our own culture and that will lead to the loss momentum, time will
come in the future that this culture of ours will no longer remembered nor practice by other
Filipinos in the future, we need to preserve our culture because it defines us.
Can you still hear children nowadays say “po” and “opo” to the ones that are older than them?
Does the youth of today still bless to their parents or grandparents when they arrive from school?
We are known for being hospitable, artistic and genuine. If this culture will be lost, we will no
longer be remembered as what we are today that’s why it is important for us to practice our
culture and continue the legacy of a true Filipino with Good Traits and Attitudes.

As youth, I know that we still have the power to bloom the flower of hope in the preservation our
culture and tradition. I believe in each one of you, be the bridge in every gap and never be afraid
to show who you truly are as a Filipino. Padayon, kabataang Filipino!
