A complex instruction set computer (CISC) is a computer where single instructions can execute several low-

level operations (such as a load from memory, an arithmetic operation, and a memory store)

Reduced instruction set computing ( RISC) is a CPU design strategy based on the insight that simplified (as
opposed to complex) instructions can provide higher performance if this simplicity enables much faster
execution of each instruction. A computer based on this strategy is a reduced instruction set computer, also
called RISC.

ARM Holdings plc is a British multinational semiconductor and software design company with its head office
in Cambridge, England.

The company was founded as Advanced RISC Machines, ARM, a joint venture between Acorn Computers,
Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.) and VLSI Technology.

A system on a chip or system on chip (SoC or SOC) is an integrated circuit (IC) that integrates all components
of a computer or other electronic system into a single chip. It may contain digital, analog, mixed-signal, and
often radio-frequency functions—all on a single chip substrate. A typical application is in the area of
embedded systems.

Snapdragon is a family of mobile systems on a chip (SoC) by Qualcomm. Qualcomm considers Snapdragon a
"platform" for use in smartphones, tablets, and smartbook devices

Tegra is a system on a chip (SoC) series developed by Nvidia for mobile devices such as smartphones,
personal digital assistants, and mobile Internet devices. The Tegra integrates an ARM architecture central
processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), northbridge, southbridge, and memory controller
onto one package. The series emphasizes low power consumption and high performance for playing audio
and video.

Atom competes with existing SoCs developed for the smartphone and tablet market from companies like
Texas instruments, Nvidia, Qualcomm and Samsung.[3] Unlike these companies, which use ARM-based
CPUs designed from the beginning to consume very low power, Intel has adapted the x86 based Atom line
CPU developed for low power usage in netbooks, to even lower power usage.
