Mumbai’s Dubbawalla or is translated as the Lunch box delivery man is one of the
greatest full proof delivery system that is possibly out there with only less than 1%
mistakes done by a year, by fact. This mistake is also not done by the dubbawalla
themselves, but due to accidents or act of God and by this they received the highest
award of Sigma 6. The Dubbawallas picks up the meal of them customers early in the
morning and is delivered either by foot, bikes or riding a train with no help from and kinds
of technologies. They’re way of delivery is based on simple codes and colors that is
marked on the lunchbox that they are going to deliver because most of the dubbawalla
doesn’t know how to read and write. The process is simple to look at, They pick up the
containers from the house of the customer, The kind of delivery depends on how far the
food will be delivered at. If it is close it could be delivered by foot or bike but when it is
far it would be delivered on a train station then the food would be sorted by the
destination, After this they have a 30 second time limit to put the food inside the train.
I think they have some sort of VIP treatment for this because from what I know in india
is that most of them just jumped inside the train inorder for them to catch it without
relying that much on safety, but from what I saw on the videos people moved away from
them inorder for them to do the process of putting the food inside the train. Also there
are two types of train in India. The Fast train and the Slow Train, The Fast train is not
literally faster by speed but it is called the fast train because it skips stations while the
slow train stops in every station. So this helps the Dabbawallas travel time a bit easier.
There are no room for mistakes for this job because the people who eat from this boxes
comes from all class, if you gave a man from southern India a food from a Muslim family
he won’t be able to eat it, he won’t even open it. I think the secret for this success is the
simplicity of its form. It is based on codes rather than having complicated addresses like
we have here in the Philippines. In short, Less complicated things, the better results.
