Stage 2 Psychology

Assessment Type 1: Investigations Folio


Group Investigation

Purpose
This assessment allows you to:
 demonstrate and apply your knowledge and understanding of psychological principles and ethical
research by undertaking and evaluating the Arousal and Relaxation investigation.
 demonstrate organisation and critical reflection in the application of psychological principles, taking
into account ethical considerations.
 undertake a role as a member of a team to achieve individual and shared goals.

Description of assessment

Part 1 - Collaborative Component


Proposal Development (maximum 250 words) – as a group, develop a proposal which identifies:
 a research question that can be addressed using the data collected from the research program.
 how the data can be used to address the question.

Data Analysis – as a group, explore alternative ways of appropriately selecting and presenting relevant
data. This may include statistical calculations or the content analysis of data.

Part 2 – Individual Component (1500 words)


Complete a report based on the proposal developed by the group. The report may be written or you
may negotiate an alternative format for the presentation of the report.
The completed investigation report should include:
 an introduction that identifies the focus of the investigation and the data used to address a specific
research question
 the display and analysis of data
 an evaluation of the information gathered, the sample used, and the investigation design
 discussion of research ethics
 a conclusion, including comments on the usefulness of the investigation and possible future
improvements.

The proposal should be attached to the completed investigation report.

In addition to the report, you will complete a peer/self-assessment in which you:


 Rate each member of your group against A3 using the performance standards
 Write a brief review of the interactions in your group and your participation

Assessment conditions

Part 1 is completed during lesson and Part 2 is completed during some lesson & mostly homework time.
