Job description
To lead a Piping / Mechanical inspection team to ensure that all required
inspections, verification and audits performed during the fabrication and
installation of the Piping / Mechanical / Architectural Systems are in
accordance with the project technical and safety procedures and work
instructions;

To ensure execution adherence to the Contractor Inspection and Testing Plan


and approved for construction drawings and specifications;

Play an active role in supporting the Shell 12 Life Saving Rules and the HSE
programs and schemes in place in the SCM yards;

Develop and review piping & mechanical procedures and inspection and test
plans;

Become knowledgeable of the project approved for construction drawings


and specifications;

Verify and monitoring the adherence to project accepted material tracking,


welding and NDE procedures;

Review of Contractor’s shop drawings;

Ensure SCM compiles full and accurate reports of all piping and mechanical
activities;

Ensure welders on piping are qualified for the specific application;

Verify quality of the installation of the Piping / Mechanical / Architectural


System components (piping, Architectural Outfitting, rotating and static
equipment, and HVAC);

Verification of necessary dimensional checks;

Perform and witness P&ID checks to verify design compliance;

Review NDE results;

Witnessing flushing and hydrostatic testing, and reinstatement of piping &


equipment alignment checks;

Verify that all rotating and static equipment is installed in accordance with the
project specifications;

Verify that HVAC components are installed as per the project approved for
construction drawings and specifications;

Assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning of piping and mechanical


systems;

Preparing list of Piping / Mechanical Systems items for inclusion in the final
punch list;

Ensure all equipment has preservation / maintenance checks in accordance


with contract requirements;

Understand the project schedule and be proactive in assessing where


activities could impact the planned progress advising the VCT Construction
Discipline leads;

Actively participate in supporting the Shell 12 Life Saving Rules and the SCM

yard HSE programs and schemes;

Attend Yard Safety Walks and Meetings if requested to and carry out regular
Pronto Form submissions;

Document and communicate Lessons Learned in all above responsibilities.

About you
Minimum twenty-five (25) years’ experience in inspection and inspector
supervision of offshore / marine Piping / Mechanical Systems, preferably in
Shell Deepwater;

Current or past AWS Certified Welding Inspector qualification or equivalent,


preferred;

Past site experience on Shell major deepwater development projects as a


Lead Piping / Mechanical Inspector, preferred;

Familiarity with NDE techniques in RT, MT, PT, PAUT and ability to interpret
results of each test;

Strong ability to read and understand piping drawings, isometrics, and


P&ID’s;

Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards, including: ASME, AWS,
API, NACE, ASTM;

Well versed and experienced in review construction, Mechanical Completion,


Commissioning drawings / procedures with the ability to lead others and to
ensure compliance with the scope of work, consistent with application of
Project approved codes, standards and specifications;

Familiarity with ISO 9000 Quality Management System and associated


process and procedures;

Strong documentation skills;

Good English skills, spoken and written;

Competent computer skills in Microsoft Office products including Word and


Excel;

Past site experience in Far East offshore shipbuilding yards, preferred;

Ability to work on projects in a complex and multicultural environment.
