Peer influence is playing an important role in most teens’ lives and it is said to be not always

negative. Peer influence has some positive effects on teens and we must know why it is so
important.

It is true that peer influence is now an important part of teens’ lives. Adolescence spends most of
their time at school or activities which means they much time with their peers. Thus, they are
affected by people around them. They want to be independent and make the decision on their own
but they cannot get rid of the group they are a part of. They cannot free themselves from their
peers or their opinions. Thus, they are affected by peers all the time, directly or indirectly.

Despite its disadvantages, peer influence also has some positive effects. First, it can help you to
analyze yourself and contemplate on your ways of life. You will be able to have a change of thinking
when look what other people do. Therefore, it will play an important role in shaping your
personality. Another benefit peer influence has on you is that it helps you to form good habits. If the
people around you do something attractively, you will be more likely to adopt their actions and
make it a habit. For instance, if you see peers studying hard for the upcoming exam, you will feel like
there is something motivates you to study and you will start to do so. This will help you to change
yourself for the better.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that peer influence has negative effects on the adolescence which lead
to peer pressure. However, it still has many positive effects and as long as you consider it carefully
and selectively, peer influence will be a good way to develop yourself and change for the better.
