TLE - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Identify the important components of a Personal Computer and their functions.

2. Recognize the value of the computer system.
3. Label the different parts of a computer system.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. Main Topic : UNDERSTANDING THE COMPUTER SYSTEM

B. Sub-topic : Computer Hardware and it’s Peripherals
C. References : K to 12 Basic Education Program – Learning Materials 7/8 Technology and Livelihood Education
Information and Communication Technology Education –Computer Hardware Servicing
D. Materials : Media player (Powerpoint) and television.

III. PROCEDURE:
Students Activity

Teacher’s Activity

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
Heavenly Father, thank you for today, thank you for
1. Prayer the ways in which you provide for us all. For Your
May I ask somebody to lead a prayer? protection and love we thank you, help us to focus
our hearts and minds now on what we are about to
learn. Inspire us by Your Holy Spirit as we listen and
write. Guide us by your eternal light as we discover
more about the world around us. We ask all this in
the name of Jesus. Amen

2. Classroom Management
Before we start our lesson, kindly pick up
those pieces of trashes under your chair.

You may now take your seats. None Ma’am.

Is there any absent from the class?

Very good! I’m really glad that everyone is

present today. Keep it up!

B. LESSON PROPER
1. Review
Yesterday, we discussed and focused on the
Process and Delivery enriched with hands-on
activities that will assess your level of skills,
knowledge and learning procedures.

2. Motivation
Before we move to our topic for today, First,
let’s have a game.

Arrange the letters to form a word. I will

give you 10 seconds to give the exact word
(Students will answer the scrambled letters).
of the shuffled letters every slides show.

3. Presentation of the Lesson

What do you observed in the game we had

played? Ma’am, it’s more on computer hardware.

Very good.

C. DISCUSSION

Our lesson for today is all about Computer

Hardware which is also one components of
computer system.

Each component plays an important role,

without each other, computer systems will
not work properly.

So we will discuss the Hardware.

Let us now proceed to its definition.
Who wants to read? HARDWARE – the physical, touchable, electronic
and mechanical parts of a computer system.
Thank you.

Computer system has major components.

First is the System Unit, the main part of a
microcomputer, sometimes called the
chassis (case). It includes the following
parts: Motherboard, microprocessor, memory
chips, buses, ports, expansion slots and
cards.

Next is the Motherboard or sometimes

called main board or system board. But what
is the reason why this piece is called a
motherboard? Any idea? (Answer may vary)

Well answered!

Motherboard is the core of the system. It

really is, the Personal Computer; everything
is connected to it, and it controls everything
in the system

The third one is the CPU or what we called

Central Processing Unit.

TLE - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

CPU or Central Processing Unit is the

main “brain” or “heart” of a computer
system, because it performs all of the
instructions and calculations that are needed
and manages the flow of information
through a computer.

Next is Primary Storage, who would like to

read? It is the computer’s working storage space that holds
data, instructions for processing and processed data
(Information) waiting to be sent to secondary
storage.

Thank you.

The Primary storage or primary memory is a

computer memory that a processor or
computer accesses first or directly. It allows
a processor to access running execution
applications and services that are
temporarily stored in a specific memory
location.

Primary storage has two types of memory.

And these are the ROM and RAM. Again,
what do ROM and RAM stands for? Ma’am ROM stands for Read Only Memory.

Excellent! How about RAM, anyone? Ma’am RAM stands for Random Access Memory.

Very good!

So, ROM or Read Only Memory is non-

volatile, meaning it holds data even when
the power is ON or OFF.

And RAM or Random Access Memory is

volatile, meaning it holds data only when the
power is ON. When the power is off, RAM’s
contents are lost.

I will show to you some example pictures of

RAM.

Let us proceed to Power Supply Unit

(PSU), kindly read?

It is installed in the back corner of the

Personal Computer case, next to the
motherboard. It converts 120VAC (volts
alternating current) – standard house power
into DC voltages that are used by other
components in the Personal Computer.

Next is the Hard Disk Drive (HDD), it is

also known as hard drive. It is a magnetic
storage device that installed inside the
computer. The hard drive is used as
permanent storage for data. In a Windows
computer, the hard drive is usually
configured as the C: drive and contains the
operating system and applications.

And those are the Major Components of a

Computer System.

D. GENERALIZATION

Now class, who can give me now the

summary of our topic today? Anyone? Ma’am, we discussed about the major Hardware
components of a Computer System and its functions.
IV. APPLICATION:

Yes excellent! I think you are now ready for

a recitation.

Direction: In the puzzle below, look for the

10 hidden computer components and give
their role on the computer system.
