In the “Risk of Physical Abuse to Children of Spouse Abusing Parents,” Susan M. Ross tells the

reader how violence in marriages is a pretty good predictor of physical child abuse. Often, the

abuser parent will not only abuse the other spouse, but they often inflict their abuse upon their

children too. Susan Ross also asks these questions: “Do greater amounts of marital violence

increase the probability of child abuse by the violent spouse? Do husbands show a stronger

relationship between marital violence and child abuse than wives? In order to retrieve answers

for these questions, the abuse was measured using a scale that is intended for measuring “the use

of reasoning, verbal aggression, and physical aggression in the marital relationship and the

parent-to-child relationship.”
