Chapter 1.INTRODUCTION
Chapter 1.1 Object of The project:

The summer training is an important task that is submits in the form of project report to
the University of Pune. This training has an excellent virtue that is given any student a full
two months to study & learn the organization culture as well as the subject taken for the
training.

University allows the student to take the industrial experience which is needed at the
management level. This summer training includes the searching good industry for taking
project training, doing work on the chosen subject, prepare project report on the work
done, get it certified by project guide & submit final copy.
Each Management student learns a lot in this period, as a future manager each one has to
have some experience o working industries where in the can learn sharpen the managerial
skills.
Chapter 1.2: Introduction

Seed is the basic and most critical input for sustainable agriculture. The response of all other
inputs depends on quality of seeds to a large extent. It is estimated that the direct contribution
of quality seed alone to the total production is about 15 – 20% depending upon the crop and it
can be further raised up to 45% with efficient management of other inputs. The developments
in the seed industry in India, particularly in the last 30 years, are very significant. A major re-
structuring of the seed industry by Government of India through the National Seed Project
Phase-I (1977-78), Phase-II (1978-79) and Phase-III (1990-1991), was carried out, which
strengthened the seed infrastructure that was most needed and relevant around those
times. This could be termed as a first turning point in shaping of an organized seed industry.
Introduction of New Seed Development Policy (1988 – 1989) was yet another significant mile
stone in the Indian Seed Industry, which transformed the very character of the seed
industry. The policy gave access to Indian farmers of the best of seed and planting material
available anywhere on the world. The policy stimulated appreciable investments by private
individuals, Indian Corporate and MNCs in the Indian seed sector with strong R&D base for
product development in each of the seed companies with more emphasis on high value hybrids
of cereals and vegetables and hi-tech products such as Bt. Cotton. As a result, farmer has a
wide product choice and seed industry today is set to work with a ‘farmer centric’ approach and
is market driven. However, there is an urgent need for the State Seed Corporations also to
transform themselves in tune with the industry in terms of infrastructure, technologies,
approach and the management culture to be able to survive in the competitive market and to
enhance their contribution in the national endeavour of increasing food production to attain
food & nutritional security.

We recognize the importance of sound research backup for the success of any industry.
Hence our theme of research department is “Need based Research”. The mandate
includes crop improvement with respect to hybrids/varieties development having field
tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses coupled with high yield, so that the cost of
cultivation can be reduced by means of curtailing the expenses on fertilizers, pesticides,
chemicals and fungicides. Secondly, keeping in mind the export potential because of WTO /
GATT agreements, the R&D activities are focused on Integrated Crop Management (ICM) &
quality product development for export oriented production of agricultural/horticultural
crops, thus making them globally competitive and fit for human consumption. There are
about 35 important crops in cereals, oilseeds, pulses, fiber crops & vegetables on which
research is in progress. The R&D division possesses of 200 hectares of own farmland;
supported with a well-equipped laboratory, a meteorological observatory, an up-to date
library and climatically controlled poly-houses for experimentation. Currently, qualified
scientists from multidisciplines are engaged in development of unique hybrids & varieties
of different crops.
1.3 Objectives of the Study:-

• To study the process of Seeds productions and its benefits to farmers.

• To study of seeds development and its result, productivity and farmer feedback.

• To provide information about the latest advanced Seeds cultivation techniques and imparting
training to seeds farmers..

• Providing agriculture inputs, loans and grants to seeds or crop loan farmers, according to their
need.
1.4 Statement of Hypotheses:-

1. Co-operative seeds factories are suffering from the losses due to high cost of
production and low productivity in relation to by-product units.

2. Seeds production areas are fulfill farmer actually needs and reduce expenses of forming
on fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals and fungicides. .

3. The functional areas of management like production, marketing, finance and HR

are weak in the by-products sample units.

4. By-Products production mix is not up to the mark in sample units.

1.5 Scope of the Study:-

In the past, the Nirmal seeds industry has commendably kept pace with the growing domestic seeds
demand.
As a result, the Indian state level market became the largest in volume; the sector became the second
largest seeds producing geography.
Thus having produces hybrid and varieties itself as a producing geography, it now aspires for greater
frontiers.

The sector, thus, requires a comprehensive sector road map

1.6 Rationale/contribution of the study:-

The Indian seed programme largely adheres to the limited generations’ system for seed
multiplication in a phased manner. The system recognizes three generations namely breeder,
foundation and certified seeds and provides adequate safeguards for quality assurance in the seed
multiplication chain to maintain the purity of the variety as it flows from the breeder to the
farmer.

Seed is the basic and most critical input for sustainable agriculture. The response of all other
inputs depends on quality of seeds to a large extent. It is estimated that the direct contribution of
quality seed alone to the total production is about 15 – 20% depending upon the crop and it can
be further raised up to 45% with efficient management of other inputs.
1.7 Limitations of the study:-

The present study covers the sample Seeds factories in Jalgaon District. The
selected subject has following limitation.

The study relates the seeds factories in the Jalgaon District only.

The researcher studied the functional areas like production, financial,

marketing and human resource in relation to the sugar factories and its byproducts
developments.

This study does not necessarily cover all these technical aspect of Seeds factories.

The period of the study is of only seven years i.e. from 2015-16 to 2017-18
Therefore time factor is the limiting factor.

The conclusions drawn in this study are based on the data made available by
these Seeds factories.

Use of statistical tools and technique has its own limitation.

Chapter 2. RESEARCH & METHODOLOGY
2.1 RESEARCH & METHODOLOGY:-
RESEARCH:-

We recognize the importance of sound research backup for the success of any industry. Hence
our theme of research department is “Need based Research”. The mandate includes crop
improvement with respect to hybrids/varieties development having field tolerance to biotic and
abiotic stresses coupled with high yield, so that the cost of cultivation can be reduced by means
of curtailing the expenses on fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals and fungicides. Secondly, keeping
in mind the export potential because of WTO / GATT agreements, the R&D activities are
focused on Integrated Crop Management (ICM) & quality product development for export
oriented production of agricultural/horticultural crops, thus making them globally competitive
and fit for human consumption. There are about 35 important crops in cereals, oilseeds, pulses,
fiber crops & vegetables on which research is in progress.

The R&D division possesses of 200 hectares of own farmland; supported with a well-equipped
laboratory, a meteorological observatory, an up-to date library and climatically controlled poly-
houses for experimentation. Currently, qualified scientists from multidiscipline are engaged in
development of unique hybrids & varieties of different crops.

METHODOLOGY:-

We are dedicated to establish a smooth supply of quality seeds to all farmers. Therefore, farmers
across the country have shown a tremendous trust in all seed varieties developed by us. A
meticulous planning and good co-ordination between the registered growers and our
management have set a system in such a manner that the high quality seed production has
become possible. Our seeds are produced as a 'Custom Seed Production' from pre-defined
farmers; under the supervision of our breeders, scientists and seed technologists. The seed
production has witnessed a considerable growth in the last few years. Our exponential growth is
well supported by our production department by providing more than 3,00,000 quintals of seeds
of about 35 crops and research hybrids of field crops and vegetables of their own. This
production activity is well framed in 12 states and 76 production centers with the support of
qualified technical manpower and 12000 growers. Production program of more than 64000
hectares is expected to support in the horizontal and vertical growth of our organization.

Methodology is the systematic and objective identification, collection analysis, dissemination and
use of information for the purpose of improving decision making related to the identification and
solution of problem.
