The teacher will conduct a short review of the previous topic by asking questions.

Can someone here remind me of what was the previous topic?

- Force and Work
In your own words define Force? And Work?
- Answer may
When can you say that the person is doing work?
- You are doing WORK when you use force to cause motion in the direction of force.

(your video here and questions too)

Explain
The teacher will discuss the concept of power using guide questions, video clip that shows what Force,
Work and Power and how they are related to each other. He/She will also let the students solve the
sample problems related to power.

a. What is power?
- Power is the work done over time
b. What does it mean when a person has a high value of power?
- It means that the person exerted more effort or force to work

c. How is work related to power?

- Directly proportional
d. How is power affected by the time?
- Power is measured work done of time

e. What is the formula of power?

f. What is the unit for power? (shows the conversion )

Take note of the conversions

1 joule/second (J/s) = 1 watt (W)

1000 watts (W) = 1 kilowatt (kW)
1 horsepower (hp) = 746 watts (W)
The teacher will now show the video clip and after the video clip questions will be ask.

a. When can we consider a person doing work?

-When the person exerted force to make that something move
b. What is the relation between time and power exerted?
-They are inversely proportional.
c. What happens to the time if power is increased?
- Time will decrease
d. What will happen to the power if the time increases?
- Power will decrease
After the video clip the sample problems will be given to the student. The students are given 3 minutes
to solve per problem and after 3 minutes, the teacher will call for someone to present their work in
front.

1. A box weights 575N and is lifted a distance of 20.0m straight up by a cable attatched to a motor.
The job is done in 15 seconds. What is the power developed by the motor in watts AND
kilowatts? Show the convertion.

P=Fd/t

P= (575N)(20.0m)/(15s)

P=766.67W or .767kW

2. A boy of 450 N of weight climbs a wood steps with a lenght of 3 m. The boy takes 6 seconds to
get the end of the steps. What is the power done by the boy on this activity!

Answer
The power (P), the work (W) and the time (t) relationship:
P = W/t

where W = (weight of the boy) x (the boy displacement) = 450 x 3 = 1350 joule

So then :
P = W/t
P = 1350 / 6
P = 225 watt
3. Dan climbs a flight of stairs 10m from the ground. If he weighs 450 N and he exerted a power of
50W. How long did it takes for Dan to reach the top of the stairs?

Answer

Given:
P = 50 W
F = 450 N
d = 10 m
