Philosophy : GANDHISM (Truth (satya), Non-violence (ahinsa) and the Golden Rule)
Philosopher : Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi / Mahatma Gandhi
Background of the Philosopher:

Mahatma Gandhi, by name of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, (born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India—
died January 30, 1948, Delhi), Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the
nationalist movement against the British rule of India. As such, he came to be considered the father of his country.
Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest (ahimsa) to achieve political and social
progress. (Retrieved October 06, 2019, from https://www.britannica.com/biography/Mahatma-Gandhi).

Mahatma has been a very big influence on not only me but the people of India, Hinduism and people of
other faiths such as Islam. He claimed independence for India without physical harm and he made himself showed
respect to people other than Christianity. e.g. Islam. Mahatma Gandhi wanted to make Hindu's and Muslim's to be
together again after they turned their daggers towards each other when Gandhi was put in jail, so he announced he
would fast for 21 days beginning on the 18th of September. He reserved the right to drink water with or without
salt."It is both a penance and a prad " he said " I respectfully invite the heads of all communities including
Englishmen, to meet and end this quarrel which is a disgrace to religion and to humanity. It felt me amazed because
I know a man who followed the faith of another religion to give peace to Hinduism and to Muslims. Gandhi's
personal reflection on this still day as India and Pakistan no longer have any wars as they have been united by the
greatest leader of all time Mahatma Gandhi.Mahatma Gandhi died on the 30 January 1948. He was assassinated
when he was walking to a prayer meeting in the lawn of Birla House in New Delhi. The name of the murderer is
Nathurum Godse. He was hanged for this after put in prison. He was also given a criminal record.(Retrieved October

Discussion:
Yes, indeed his principles are valid and eternal. Satya (truth) still holds enough respect in human society.
People only respect who stay with truth. Even few people sack their integrity for midget profits. But for mental
satisfaction and guilt free life one need to stay with truth. Nonviolence is base of civilized human society. If humans
involve in violence, then what is difference between humans and animals. Religions equality is must for humans to
survive in upcoming future. Principles of gandhism are eternal. Those were useful in past and will be valid in future.
Satya or truth is not valid in today's capitalist world. A business man can’t speak truth all the time. Even
our
advertisement hides reality and sells fakeness. Ahinsa or nonviolence is good till a point. But if you only bear the
pain others giving you then it is not justified. These principles are not valid in present as modern times human made
different standards in their societies from the past. In past religions had very powerful influence over society but
now religions are eloping (it’s a sad reality). Principles of gandhism are universal. It’s just present human society
more focusing on the showoff and money. But these principles are eternal.

Significance as a Public Administrator in the future:

In public administration, Truth is the essential element of a public office. “Public Office is a Public Trust”
wherein, Gandhi number one principle is satya (truth) where truth is in need to his era and this present times.
Truth must be entail to all public officials as stated in Article 11, Section 1 of 1987 Constitution: Public office is a
public trust. Public officers and employees must at all times be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost
responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency, act with patriotism and justice, and lead modest lives. So it is a must
to us (a public administrator practitioner) to be truthful and have integrity to our people.

Ahinsa or the nonviolent protest or movement must also be considered or simply means being democratic
in all the policies, movements and plans that you may implement. As Gandhi did, he tried to do his movement and
protest in a democratic way where no one will die and shed their blood. Thus, his principles applied to me and to all
the public administrator where the ideals and principles of being democratic and loyal to your country and
countrymen must be prioritized not your self interest and goodness.
