OPTIMIZATION OF AUTOMOBILE EXHAUST SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

Silencer is an integral part of the exhaust system. The silencer serves the function of noise and
vibration reduction. The exhaust gases in the combustion chamber which are at temperatures of
around 1200K are released to the atmosphere at around 323K. Temperature reduction takes place
efficiently as the flue gases flow through the exhaust system. In this study, flow analysis is carried
out on various geometries and the geometries are checked for the pressure drop and temperature
drop based on which the optimum geometry having minimum pressure drop and maximum
temperature drop across the flow is selected and considered suitable. The entire flow analysis is
done using ANSYS Fluent 18.0. Various Geometry combinations are used considering the
minimum pressure drop. Experimentally analysis to find carbon emission of Exhaust system.

EXPERIMENTAL AND CFD ANALYSIS OF STEAM BOILER USED IN POWER


PLANT

ABSTRACT

Steam boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other fluid is heated under pressure and the steam
released out by the boiler is used for various heating applications. The main considerations in the
design of a boiler for a particular application are Thermal design and analysis, Design for
manufacture, physical size and cost. In this thesis the steam flow in steam boiler without baffles is
modeled using AUTO CAD design software. The thesis will focus on CFD analysis of steam boiler
without baffles. In this thesis the CFD analysis to determine the temperature, velocity, and pressure
drop for steam boiler without baffles. In future steam boiler is analyzed with baffles. CFD analysis
to determine the temperature steam boiler with baffles. Finding which model is best from the
comparison result. Steam boiler modal fabricated and experimentally analyzed.
EXPERIMENTAL AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF WORM-ASSEMBLY IN GEAR
BOX USING ALUMINUM ALLOY

ABSTRACT

Worm gears are commonly used in windshield wipers and power windows of automobiles.
Differential is a part of inner axle housing assembly, which includes the differential rear axles,
wheels and bearings. The differential consists of a system of gears arranged in such a way that
connects the propeller shaft with the rear axles. Worm gear speed reducers are comprised of the
terms “gearbox” and “speed reducer” that are used interchangeably in the world of power
transmission and motion control. Gearboxes are used for speed reduction and torque
multiplication. A hybrid term of “gear reducer” is also commonly used when talking about
gearboxes. This is simply a gearbox (or speed reducer, or gear reducer) with a motor directly
mounted to the input. A gearbox designed using a worm and worm-wheel will be considerably
smaller than one made from plain spur gears and has its drive axes at 90° to each other. With a
single start worm, for each 360° turn of the worm, the worm-gear advances only one tooth of the
gear. In the present work all the parts of differential are designed under Structural condition and
modeled. The required data is taken from journal paper. Modeling and assembly is done in auto
cad. The detailed drawings of all parts are to be furnished. The main aim of the project is to focus
on the mechanical design and contact analysis on assembly of gears in gear box when they transmit
power at different speeds at 2500 rpm, 5000 rpm. Presently used materials are Cast iron and Cast
steel. For validating design Structural Analysis is also conducted by varying the materials for
gears, Cast Iron and of Aluminum Alloy. The experimental analysis is conducted to Aluminum
Alloy.
