We here by certify that the Non-Destructive Testing at following points was conducted by us on
Sagar-Damoh Road, SH-14--MPRDC Project, as per the Work order placed on us by M/s
Backbone Enterprises Ltd, Rajkot.
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test was conducted under LRN 04100589 at Bridge at Chainage 11+100
on 3 partially constructed piers.
The Investigation was carried out and the reporting is done by a team of engineers under the
supervision of Mr. Sushil Malhotra.Testing was conducted in the presence of the following

1.INTRODUCTION :
a.UPV Test:
UPV Test is considered to be a valuable method of examining the interior of a body concrete in a non-
destructive way. This method is used to determine the homogeneity of concrete, presence or absence
of cracks, voids and changes that occur in concrete with time, comparison of one concrete to another.
Path length (L) of the pulse is measured and measuring the transit time (T) of the pulse using the
electronic time circuits. The velocity calculated as V= L/T.

2.TEST METHODOLOGY:
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity test was conducted at 3 piers of partially constructed bridge on Ch 11+100,
Sagar-Damoh Road (SH-14) against the Work order placed to us by M/s Backbone Enterprises Ltd,Rajkot.
After examining the bridge physically and consulting technical experts from the client’s end, it was decided
to comment on the quality of concrete along the length and width of individual bridge at various points at
random and comment on the condition of concrete in the structure.
a.UPV Test
Various points were selected for testing on the surface and cross section of the piers—P1, P2 & P3 and
marked namely A1-A1’, A2-A2’…,B1-B1’,B2-B2’…C1-C1’,C2-C2’….etc. by the client and consultant.
Location diagram of points is depicted diagrammatically. The same have been tested.
Cross(direct) & indirect probing was done in various combinations and the corresponding distance between
the two selected points and the time taken by the pulse wave to pass through that distance was recorded
as detailed in Table – A. The cross probing between the opposite points is referred as “Direct”.
Velocity Criterion for Concrete Quality Grading as per IS 13311-Part I is given in Table I.

CONCLUSION :
1. As per IS 13311 – Part1 (for direct probing) and NCBM (for surface probing), Average
Pulse Velocity (for surface probing) of 3.18 km/sec refers to good quality of concrete.
2. Some patches of medium concreting have been observed which are mentioned
clearly.
