1.1 OPEhATING METHOD WITH TIMER
(1) Set master switch (1) to the TIMER position~
(2) Set the "PRESENT TL~EN setting scale plate (2)
to the present time.
(3) Set the "ETD" setting knob (3) to L,e scheduled

o By operating (L) • (2) and (3), the gyro
ETD.
o About three hours before schedule ETD, ~~e
gyro comnass starts to operate .•.... Running
lamp (green) (5) lights.
(4) When ETD comes, set master switch (1) to RBN
position .
.....••• Timmer runn~ng lamp (red) (4) goes out.
- 1 -
Note: Within about three hours after the scheduled ETD, be sure to perform operation (4) above. If this operation is not performed, the gyrocompass operation will stop automatically. Therefore, when the departure scbedule is changed or cancelled, it is not necessary to operate master switch (1).
1.2 OPERATING METHOD WITHOUT TIMER
(1) Set master switch (1) to RUN position . ........ Running lamp (green) (5) lights.
By the above operation, the gyrocompass will be operative in about three hours.
1.3 STOPPING METHOD
(1) Set master switch (1) to OFF position.
Running lamp (green) (5) goes out.
1.4 REPEATER SYNCHRONIZATION
(1) Set power switch to ON position in transmission unit.
(2) Shift the repeater switch to OFF and set the repeater to the reading on the master compass by turning the repeater synchronization knob.
(3) When the repeater has been set to the reading of the master compass, turn on the repeater switch to confirm that the master compass and repeater give the same readings.
Should these readings be not identical, repeat the above specified setting procedures.
Note: Normally. the repeater swi~ch is kepT Turned on and is capped so that it will be free from being acciden~ally touched by the operator.

CHAPTER 2 OPERATING PRINCIPLE
2.1 MASTER COMPASS (SEE FIG.2)
The rotor case- is supposed by the suspension wire
to minimize the bearing friction of the vertical axis
pivot.
The gyro movement is detected by the follow-
up transformer (pick-off). The servo motor is operated by the servo amplifier to rotate the phantom ring, and the NC axis of the card is always made to coincide with the gyro axis. The vertical ring that supports the rotor has a horizontal
axis pivot which is supported by the horizontal ring.
The gimbals axis is at right angles to the horizontal axis pivot and is supported by the phantom ring.
The rotor case has freedom around these three axes and, therefore, can always maintain the gyro horizontal despite the oscillations of the hUll.

2.2 POWER UNIT (SEE FIG. 3)
This unit supplies the 400Hz power needed to
rotate the rotor.
It receives 24V DC and generates
110V AC, 400Hz power. The requlator inverter
circuit consists of the following:
o Stabilizer circuit
o Oscillator circuit
o Inverter circuit
It supplies a stabilized output voltage and fre-
quency even when the input power fluctuates.
This power unit has a sequence timer. An ordinary
gyro compass can be used 3 to 4 hours after starting.
With this power unit, however, the sequence timer
can be actuated by carrying out the operating
method with the timer on the control panel of
this unit. The gyro compass automatically becomes
operable at the set time and can be used within
the desired time.
(See CHAPTER I.}
In case the gyro compass was not used within
the desired time, it automatically goes to the
stop condition.
This is because the timer circuit
is arranged on one PC board to turn on the
Dower
~ .
supply at the set time and turn it off after the
specified tlme.
- 5 -
2.3 SYNCHRO AMPLIFIER (See Fig. 3)
The synchro amplifier receives azimuth signal (90X)
from master compass, supplies repeater compass with
amplified azimuth signal by transistor.

CHAPTER 3 MAINTENANCE AND CHECK
Gyro compass
is very easy to maintain and check.
However, it is important to always handle it correctly in order to obtain its best performance for a long time. Exercise caution when maintaining it.
3.1 CHECK
o Power voltage
It is better to have the power voltage always constant.
1. Monthly check
o Power voltage
Make sure that the power voltage is within 19V and 29V.
" Master compass
When the master comDass is operating normally, the gyro does not make any noise, vibrate, or
overheat etc.
Evaluate the normal condition,
and compare it with the actual situation. Also make sure that the bubble in the level
gauge on the vertical ring is between scale
divisions 3 and 6.
(At the factory, the
center of the bubble was adjusted at scale division 5.)
2. Other checks
Checks other than the above are hardly necessary.
However, check for loose wires, oil stains and
loss, etc. Remedy if necessary. Aithough the
slip ring below the phantom ring scarcely gets
damaged, check quarterly and remedy if necessary.
3.2 WHEN A FAILURE OCCURS
If the gyro compass is abnormal, check the items
listed below and contact Tokyo Keiki.
(Make this check with the power switch set at ON
position. )

For a 270°-0°_90° caurse~ che true bear:ng is the difference between the gyro azimuth and the velocity error.
For a 90·-180D-270· course, the true bearing is the sum of the gyro azimuth and the velocicy errcr~

Connect the course SOc with latitude 30°. Connect the intersection
point of the obtained line and the oblique line with the 12 knots ship
v e lo c i t y . The obtained straight l~ne indicates the velocity. The in,tersecting point ~ith the error scale is the velocity error (about 0.6°). Therefore, the true bearing is 50c_O&6c=&9.4°~ (Stlbtracted for the course of OQ_900).
