• Social phobia can be precipitated by stressful or humiliating
experiences, also the sex ratio is Female 2.5 :1 Male. (1).

• The study done in Brazilian university students revealed that the


prevalence of social phobia was 11.6% (2).
• A study is carried out in college of nursing among first year students
at university of Baghdad, Karkuk, Thi-qar, and Kufa. The study result
shows the social phobia inventory (5.8 %). that affects millions of
students in colleges and schools over the world each year. Social
phobia has a significant impact upon nursing collegians self-esteem
(2).
• The aims of this study are to assess the demographic characteristics of
students and level of social phobia among students.
• Research design: A quantitative, descriptive study design.

• Setting: The study conducted on students in Koya Technical institute-


nursing department at Erbil polytechnic University in Koya City.

• Duration of the study: This study was carried out from 5th January to
8th May 2017.
• Study sample: The population of this study was made of students. A
non-probability (purposive sample) of 150 students in Koya Technical
institute-community health department.

• Tools and methods of data collection: The questionnaire was


contained of two parts. Part one: consisted of socio-demographic
characteristics of the students, and part two: Was a Scale which used
to measure the severity of social phobia among nursing students.
• Measuring of social phobia score using Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN)
(3) scale which includes 17 questions and each questions has 5
responses that are marked from 0 to 4 and the student select one
response that are more suitable with his emotional state.

• Most of the study sample was between age group 18-20 years old,
most of the study sample was male , single, and fair economic status
and from rural area. The highest percentage of the study sample who
have been in moderate social phobia level.
• Provide the educational programs for students about social phobia in order to
decrease social phobia among students.

• Social phobia may be affected on learning process so early detected and


intervention is necessary.

• Further similar studies are recommended, to include larger samples for more precise
results and better to be performed in different areas of Iraq for comparison and to
gain deeper insight about social phobias.
