Art Appreciation

Questions:
1. If art reflects the current issues happening now, would that yield more negative effects in
a child’s mind than good?

2. Does art censorship really discriminate facets of the art experience?

3. Why would an artist still publicize their work even though it is most likely be rejected by
the people because of its disturbing content?

4. Can provocative art, become a means of fighting the issue it is portraying?

5. Does censorship in art is important? Why?


Answers:
1. The current curriculum models of art subject children in to concepts that are
deemed “developmentally inappropriate”. If art educators are willing to work
with the art of disturbation, art can be presented with minute amounts of
disturbing thoughts by focusing more on the academic aspect of art therefore,
giving the child a broader sense of understanding.

2. It is true that every artist has a privilege or a right to show-off its artwork —
since every artists has its own freedom to express one’s own expression of art.
However, with respect to artist’s freedom of expression, an artwork sometimes
has to be put in place that is appropriate on its audiences; especially if there are
under-aged or child audiences, wherein an artwork is sensitive or is supposed
to be for matured audiences. Therefore, an artwork is free to expose for as long
as it is putted in a right place with appropriate audiences, based on its category
or where it is belong.

3. They still publicize it because every artist always has a reason why they did it.
They want their audience to be expose to such topic in which they will be
informed to such disturbing topic that will actually help them be more open
minded and make them realize that it is still happening like dictatorship, animal
slaughtering etc.

4. It could fight perhaps minor issues, but it can only be a beacon for the major
issues, to shine light on the issues at hand.

5. Yes, censorship in art is important because it serves as a strategy that provides


structure and guidance to keep disturbation a self-empowering element in the
art experience. It is also discourage the negative attention in expression of hate,
explicit sex and violence.
