Concepts:

A product is harmful/ hazardous if it has at least one of the following properties:

Toxic — Poison or causes long-term illness (such as cancer). Pesticides, paint thinners, many
auto products and some cleaners are toxic.

Flammable — Burns easily. Paint, thinners and other solvents, and auto products are the most
flammable home products.

Corrosive — Eats through materials (acid, for example). Oven cleaners, drain cleaners, toilet bowl
cleaners, and auto batteries are common corrosive products.

Reactive — Can spontaneously ignite or create poisonous vapors when mixed with other
products. (therefore NEVER mix household products). Can also explode when expose to heat, air,
water, or shock. Ex. Firecrackers, bleach and ammonia

compressed gas is a substance that is a gas at normal room temperature and pressure, and is contained
under pressure, usually in a cylinder. Some compressed gases (e.g. acetylene) are stabilized in the
cylinder by dissolving the gas in a liquid or solid matrix.

Biological hazards are also known as biohazards refer to biological substances that pose a threat to the
health of living organisms, primarily that of humans. This can include samples of a microorganism, virus or
toxin (from a biological source) that can affect human health.
