Two drops break up Phase one. Drop one celebrates power dressing and updates
the look with softer statement shoulders and relaxed tailoring. January’s drop two
reworks 1980s sportswear and champions the new generation of fashion pioneers
ready to start the new year with a strong active focus.

Praising the work of 1980s Armani, the return of comfort dressed tailoring sees silhouettes
become less structured. Sharpness and strong forms are still important but the look is updated
with an oversized relaxed zoot-suit feel

Caged, sculpted, and cutaway – body-con dressing has the perfect mix of gloss, glamour and
sex appeal. Inspiration sees a vintage Cindy Crawford-influenced element placing swim-
inspired silhouettes alongside eveningwear

Gender is neutral and style is diverse, with attitude the key anchor. Elements of punk, new
romantic and prettiness and fuse together to create a mismatch of subcultures

Colour will be infused with the look and feel of the digital age. Classic 1980s tones will return, and black
plum will emerge as a key tone. Electric magenta, jelly bean green, hot pink and machine red will get
things off to a bright start. Bold shoreline blue and horizon yellow are introduced as accents. This palette
works for both dressier and active led looks that start off the summer season, beginning for phase 1.

The classic sharp silhouette of the 1980s is softened. Shoulders take
on a more relaxed feel with soft curves while keeping their padded and
boxed heritage, as seen at JW Anderson's Pre-Summer 2016
presentation. Important Michael Morris-style graphics run through the
story maintaining the boldness of the era.

New Wave style meets Pop Art punk. Statement eyewear looks to House of
Holland for inspiration. Make-up is experimental, using the face as a canvas
for spray art-style contouring effects. Look to the original New Wave album
covers for inspiration for placement prints for T-shirts and dresses.

The combination of delicate florals and strong lines hark
back to the glossy Japanese-inspired editorials of the
1980s, with Serge Luten's power-glamour shoots an
integral source for this story. The mix of harsh and soft,
glossed and matte finishes, and outsized silhouettes
evokes polished glamour with a casual undertone.

Power dressing relaxes with oversized, genderless tailoring that epitomises
Armani's classic aesthetic. The focus on a collapsed zoot suit-inspired look
means Giorgio Armani is set to become a key influencer as interest around him
builds up once again. Accessories are minimal with strong features in the form
of classic round-lens eyewear and shallow hats with wide brims.

New nautical sees the traditional Breton stripe prints deconstructed and
pieced together in a modern, unexpected way, as the classic look steps up a
notch and takes on a glossier feel. Subtle sailor details are seen in tabbed
collars and gold chain hardware. Accessories are outsized and quirky with
large-scale acetate eyewear in classic black with pop brights.

Wet-look gel and high-shine surfaces sit at the heart of this story. Hair
is scraped back with a drenched look while fabrics are patent, glossed
and often have a technical, reflective feel. The look is aggressive and
glamorous in equal measure.

Enter the world of the 1980s nightlife. The excess and glamour of
the era inspire acid leopard prints that work perfectly. Grace Jones’
Nightclubbing album is influential and vintage Encens magazine
editorial inspires the styling. Animal prints are clashing and
hallucinogenic, worn head to toe with stacked bangles and cinched
waists creating a ‘too much is never enough’ appeal.

Architectural caging and multi-strapped dresses and swimwear see
peek-a-boo panels and slashed seams on body-conscious silhouettes.
The look is reminiscent of 1980s swimwear editorials. Balmain's S/S 15
collection applies graphic strapping onto solid and sheer dresses to
update the look.

The use of classic Beta Max and VHS sleeve designs creates a sporty, graphic story.
Primary and secondary colours are teamed with graphic black and white and pixelled
typography. CD-inspired reflective rainbow prints are noted at BauBauHaus with
accessories in graphic metallic leathers, as seen at Opening Ceremony.

Cut-and-paste digital graphics mix photographic portraits and
experimental typography reminiscent of Sugar-Punk girl band
albums and teen music magazines such as Smash Hits. Cheeky
slogans and mix-tape scribble text prints border accessories and
appear down the side of sporty dresses.

Oversized activewear in a brash clashing palette draws on 1980s
female hip-hop bands such as Salt & Pepa for styling. The rise of
female rappers in the 1980s saw an influx of slogan T-shirts and even
classic cartoon characters were given a hip-hop makeover, as seen
on pin-up Betty Boop.

A celebration of diversity looks towards Hari Nef and Julia Cummings – the
new youth for inspiration. Attitude and style go hand in hand with elements of
punk, new romanticism and prettiness. Reference to London’s Blitz Club draws
on the style of Princess Julia and looks at a new generation who pose the
question of what is alternative?

Neon lights and rock band graphics are the background for
this pinball machine-inspired story. Black bases give artificial
brights the chance to stand out while fluorescent and chrome
tones add drama.

Shapes created by audible waves and vibrations are seen in
digital prints that are spliced and blurred with a future-tech feel.
When transferred into clothing and accessories the look is
broken up and looks almost mechanical, as seen at Hu Qi.
