Name, Initials and Date: Name, Initials and Date:
Intertherm 751CSA is a novel high performance coating that is applied using standard application
equipment and cures effectively at ambient temperatures. Capable of providing corrosion protection to
steel in both atmospheric service and under thermal insulation operating in thermal cyclical conditions
between -196°C (-321°F) and 400ºC (752ºF) without the need for additional heat curing, prior to being
placed in service.
INTENDED USES Intertherm 751CSA has been specifically designed to provide a corrosion resistant barrier when used to
protect steelwork beneath thermal insulation in areas subjected to wet and dry cycling.
Typically applied direct to metal, as a one or two coat system, Intertherm 751CSA is particularly effective
in maintenance situations when used to mitigate the damaging effects of corrosion under insulation (CUI).
Intertherm 751CSA affords excellent resistance to 'thermal shock' experienced during rapid temperature
cycling, and provides effective protection to steelwork operating under cyclic conditions.
Suitable for application to hot surfaces operating in high temperature service up to 150°C (302°F).
Ideally suited for use in the chemical process, offshore productions, petrochemical and power industries,
especially refineries and process units, pipe work, chimneys, vessels, flare stacks, exhausts, furnaces,
exteriors of reactors, power plants, vents and other structures. Significant volumes of insulated and
uninsulated steelwork can be coated with a single specification, thereby reducing complexity and
smoothing the progress of maintenance schedules etc.
Theoretical Coverage 3.49 m²/litre at 175 microns d.f.t and stated volume solids
140 sq.ft/US gallon at 7 mils d.f.t and stated volume solids
Practical Coverage Allow appropriate loss factors
REGULATORY DATA Flash Point (Typical) Part A 32°C (90°F); Part B 22°C (72°F); Mixed 25°C (77°F)
APPLICATION Mixing Material is supplied in two containers as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the
proportions supplied. Once the unit has been mixed it must be used within the
working pot life specified.
(1) Agitate Base (Part A) with a power agitator.
(2) Combine entire contents of Curing Agent (Part B) with Base
(Part A) and mix thoroughly with power agitator.
Thinner International GTA007 Thinning is not normally required. Consult the local
representative for advice during application in extreme
conditions. Do not thin more than allowed by local
environmental legislation.
Work Stoppages Do not allow material to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment. Thoroughly flush
all equipment with International GTA007. Once units of material have been mixed
they should not be resealed and it is advised that after prolonged stoppages work
recommences with freshly mixed units.
Clean Up Clean all equipment immediately after use with International GTA007. It is good
working practice to periodically flush out spray equipment during the course of the
working day. Frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount sprayed, temperature
and elapsed time, including any delays.
All surplus materials and empty containers should be disposed of in accordance with
appropriate regional regulations/legislation.

PRODUCT The detailed Intertherm 751CSA Application Guidelines should be consulted prior to use.
CHARACTERISTICS
Intertherm 751CSA is recommended for the protection of steelwork operating at continuous operating
temperatures between -196ºC (-321ºF) and 400°C (752°F) and is also suitable for the provision of
corrosion protection to steelwork in both atmospheric service and under thermal insulation subject to
cyclic wet and dry conditions.
Intertherm 751CSA is suitable for use with steelwork in situations of continuous intimate contact with
insulation operating at continuous in-service temperatures ranging from ambient up to 400ºC (752ºF).
Intertherm 751CSA is typically applied direct to correctly prepared steelwork as a two coat system at 100
microns (4 mils) per coat to give a total coating system dry film thickness of 200 microns (8 mils).
Applications at thicknesses up to 200 microns (8 mils) in a single coat are also possible. The maximum
applied total dry film thickness should be less than 350 microns (14 mils) at all times.
In order to ensure good anti-corrosive performance, it is important to achieve a minimum system dry film
thickness of 150 microns (6 mils), which in practice should equate to a minimum specification of 175
microns (7 mils).
When applying Intertherm 751CSA by brush or roller, it may be necessary to apply multiple coats to
achieve the total specified system dry film thickness.
Intertherm 751CSA can be applied to 'hot' substrates with surface temperatures up to 150°C (302°F),
making the product particularly suitable for use during periodic maintenance shutdown periods with no
need for additional heat curing, prior to being placed in service. Please refer to the Intertherm 751CSA
Application Guidelines for more detailed information.
Where multi-coat systems are to be used, optimum intercoat adhesion is best achieved by keeping the
overcoating interval as short as possible.
Intertherm 751CSA reacts with atmospheric moisture, and as such when in the can should remain
covered at all times. Failure to keep the tin covered will result in skinning of unused material and loss of
pot life.
Surface temperature must always be a minimum of 3°C (5°F) above dew point.
In common with many products containing leafing aluminium pigmentation Intertherm 751CSA may be
prone to developing a “polished” appearance in areas of minor mechanical damages etc. However, this
phenomenon is merely aesthetic and is not detrimental to the anti-corrosive performance of the product.
Note: VOC values are typical and are provided for guidance purpose only. These may be subject to
variation depending on factors such as differences in colour and normal manufacturing tolerances.
Low molecular weight reactive additives, which will form part of the film during normal ambient cure
conditions, will also affect VOC values determined using EPA Method 24.
SYSTEMS Intertherm 751CSA will normally be applied direct to metal and is not normally overcoated with any
COMPATIBILITY product other than itself when used under thermal insulation.
Overcoating of Intertherm 751CSA for colour identification purposes may be possible. Please consult
International Protective Coatings for the latest technical advice.

Intertherm® 751CSA
Heat Resistant Cold Spray Aluminium
PRODUCT A two component, high build, high temperature resistant 'cold spray' applied coating, based on titanium
DESCRIPTION modified inorganic copolymer technology and pigmented with metallic aluminium flake.

Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 Application and Repair Guide
Scope
This document contains information on the recommended use and guidance in achieving successful
application, along with yard and field repair procedures for Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 within the context of
insulated and/or high heat steel protection.
Application Guidance
Storage and Shelf Life
· Storage conditions: Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 must be stored in its original container, well sealed,
ideally within the recommended storage temperature range indicated in the PDS.
· Storage: Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 drums can be inverted, stored upside down. Inverting the drums
every few months promotes the re-homogenization of settled pigments (see “Preparation – Mixing”
section), making the product easier to prepare, drill mix, prior to application.
· Shelf life: twelve months from the date of manufacture. Time elapsed from the date of manufacture,
when still within the shelf life, may impact settling and ease of mixing. The Storage practice
recommended above reduces this natural phenomenon.
Surface Preparation
· Carbon steel:
· Abrasive blasting to Sa 2 ½ (ISO 8501-1) / SSPC SP10 for new steel, ensure full removal of mill scale.
· UHP water jetting to WJ2 (SSPC SP12 / SSPC Vis-4), tolerance to WJ2-M (Moderate level of flash
rust) as per SSPC Vis 4 / NACE N-7 visual guide.
· Ensure the surface is free from weld splatter, visible contamination (oil, grease, dust, abrasive media,
etc). Non-visible contaminants (salts) shall be removed (contact Sherwin-Williams Technical Support
for advice on accepted levels of surface salt concentration and measurement criteria).
· Sharp edges shall be rounded to a minimum of 2 mm radius or two passes of a grinder.
· Grind and smooth all rough welds.
Product Preparation
· Mixing: Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 is, due to its nature and required functionality, a heavily pigmented
product which may experience some settling during storage, the degree of settlement is determined
by the age of the product and the conditions of storage. If phase separation is observed when
opening the drum, the binder floating above the pigment, the recommended mixing procedure is to
pour the top phase (more liquid) into a separate clean container, followed by the remaining product,
the thicker (more viscous) pigmented phase. When transferring the heavier pigmented phase ensure
all material is scraped from the bottom of the original drum. Use a mechanical drill mixer to ensure full
homogenization, resulting in a uniform color and viscosity. Agitation during application (e.g. using a
pressure pot with mechanical mixer) or periodic manual re-mixing of the product is recommended,
particularly when application is not continuous or when there are frequent stoppages or interruptions.
· Re-use (pot-life restrictions): Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 is a single component product, therefore pot-
life does not apply in the same sense as a two component material. After opening and the partial use
of the material, use of the remaining product is possible within the stated shelf-life but only when the
drum has been correctly re-sealed . Prior to using any product from previously opened drums, care
must be taken to inspect the condition, do not re-use the product if it is found to be dry, comparatively
more viscous or contaminated by foreign matter.
· Re-coat window: The re-coat window for Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 is individual to the prevailing
conditions ambient and steel temperatures and the application method selected. (See below
Application Options)
Environmental conditions during application
· Temperature (substrate): minimum 10ºC (50ºF) surface temperature, at least 3ºC (5ºF) above dew
point. Maximum 260ºC.
· Relative humidity: maximum 85%.
Application Options.

coat application method for in-service temperatures. Typical set up, Spray Gun: Graco 700N, Fluid
Tip: 45 - 55 thou(1.14-1.40mm), Air Nozzle: 20 cfm, Atomization Pressure: 50 psi, Fluid Pressure: 20 -
30 psi.
· Thinning: Thinning is not recommended.
· Cleaning: It is recommended that prior to downtimes and extended breaks in application spray
equipment and fluid lines are flushed through with clean up thinner. For cleaning of equipment,
flushing lines etc, Xylene is acceptable.
· Where there are two operatives applying it is advised to stagger application adopting a 10-15 minute
interval between applications. First applicator applying the first coat and the second applicator
following behind and applying the second coat.
· An alternative to the above two operatives method is to have one applicator either side of the pipe,
staggered by a one minute interval, and both apply the first coat to the pipe for a maximum of 15
minutes, both applicators then return to the start point and apply the second coat.
Repair Procedure (shop/yard)
Areas of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp1200 that have been damaged by in-shop handling following application and
drying, or where film defects are evident on the surface, the following repair procedures should be
followed:
· Cleaning: remove all dust and visible contaminants.
· Repair of dry over spray: light sanding, dust removal, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 up to
the prescribed total DFT by mist coat application.
· Repair of localised pinholes: light sanding, dust removal, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 by
two (2) wet on wet, 1 min flash off, mist coats at 100 microns wft by airless spray or by roller. Due to
the nature of the product, and the difficulty in reducing dft by abrasion, repair areas may result in
higher DFT's. The alternative to higher dft is to follow the repair procedure for "damage exposing the
steel surface" below.
· Repair of superficial damage (without exposing the steel surface): light sanding, dust removal,
tape applied to isolate the area of damage, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 up to the
prescribed total DFT by scraper, roller or brush method of application or by mist coat spray
application.
· Repair of damage exposing the steel surface: mark off and remove the coating at and around the
damage by scraper, tape and plastic applied to isolate the area of damage and protect the
surrounding coating, solvent wash using xylene to remove traces of coating, feather hard edges
using bristle brush and xylene, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 up to the prescribed total DFT
by the full coat mist coat application method. Full coat being applied to the exposed area of steel and
subsequently applied mist coats overlapping the intact coating by two (2) to three (3) cm.
Surface Preparation.
Ensure the surface is free from weld splatter, visible contamination (oil, grease, dus t etc).
Sharp edges shall be rounded to a minimum of 2 mm radius or two passes of a grinder.
Grind and smooth all rough welds.
Remove all oil and grease from surface by Solvent Cleaning per SSPC-SP1.
If SSPC-SP6/NACE 3 is not pos sible, Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal per SSPC-SP11 is also
acceptable (25-63 / 1.0-2.5 mil micron profile maximum). Hand Tool Cleaning per SSPC SP 2 or Power
Tool Cleaning per SSPC SP 3 are acceptable* preparation methods when SSPC SP 6 or SSPC SP 11
are not possible. Coat any bare steel the same day as it is cleaned or before flash rusting occurs. Product
performance is relative to the surface preparation achieved.
*Where SSPC SP 2 or SP 3 are used the Dry Temperature Resistance is recommended to a maximum
537°C, continuous and peak.
· Repair of superficial damage (without exposing the steel surface): light sanding, dust removal,
tape applied to isolate the area of damage, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 up to the
prescribed total DFT by scraper, brush or roller method of application or by mist coat spray
application.
· Repair of exposed steel , uncoated exposed steel areas around fittings and weld seams: scrape
to remove the coating back to and beyond any areas of damage caused by welding or applied fittings,
mark off tape and protect the surrounding coating, solvent wash using xylene to remove traces of
coating, feather hard edges using bristle brush and xylene, application of Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 up
to the prescribed total DFT by the full coat mist coat application method. Full coat being applied to the
exposed area of steel and subsequently applied mist coats overlapping the intact coating by two (2)
to three (3) cm.
Health and Safety
Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 should be applied by professional applicators and in accordance with the
information contained within the individual Product Data Sheet, Material Safety Data Sheet and the
guidance provided within this document. Both the Heat-Flex Hi Temp 1200 PDS and MSDS are available
online.
Caution is required when applying solvent borne materials over hot steel surfaces. Heat-Flex Hi-Temp
1200 auto-ignition temperature is higher than the recommended maximum temperature (steel) to which
the product can successfully be applied, combustion therefore is not a concern when this limit is
observed.
Application of any solvent based materials always implies that caution is required, particularly in confined
spaces. Contact Sherwin-Williams Technical Support before applying Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200 over hot
steel surfaces in confined areas.
Apart from product-specific guidance (PDS, MSDS, Application Guide, Sherwin-Williams Technical
Support) all applicable regulations (regional, national, industry related or any other) shall apply when
applying Heat-Flex Hi-Temp 1200.
