Bill of Materials (BOM) Data Collection

Instructions for Completing the Questionnaire

This questionnaire aims at capturing detailed input on the materials used to construct and package specific products called
‘product base cases’ for the purpose of task 4 of the Taps and Showerheads evidence base study. The materials are
defined by the MEEuP Methodology and EcoReport assessment tool, which uses generic material types to develop an
appreciation of life cycle environmental impacts.
In addition, given that the study also seeks to inform the development of criteria for the EU Ecolabel Scheme, we welcome
comments and information concerning the issues the Ecolabel should consider for the product group.

Please identify at least one model (‘product base case’) for each of the water using products (tap and/or showerheads)
that are relevant to your product range, which fall under the following definitions listed below. It would be welcomed and
add to the quality of the research if you could identify and provide information for more than one product or product group.

Tap - “a small diameter directly or indirectly manually operated valve from which water is drawn”.
Showerhead - either a “fixed overhead or side shower outlet (or body jet or similar device), which may be adjustable, and
which directs water onto the user” or a “moveable hand held shower outlet which is connected to the sanitary tapware via
a shower hose and can be hung directly on the tapware or on the wall with the aid of an appropriate support (also known
as a shower handset)”.

In both cases the product scope applies to products of the type typically used for a domestic function (This is not restricted
to the use of products for domestic uses only, it also includes products for similar non domestic uses e.g. in schools, sport
centres etc)
Bathtub taps and non-domestic special purpose taps and showerheads which need unrestricted water flow to fulfil the
intended function (e.g. laboratory safety taps and showers) are excluded from the product scope.

The selection should take into consideration the current unit sales (i.e. products that have significant sales figures per
year) and products that are “average” and not particularly marked as “green”. Please provide us with the product
characteristics by filling in column C of the 'BOM_Sheet'. For any additional comments please use column D. If you want to
provide us with information on more than one model in each product case please do so by adding worksheets with info
about the specific product.

Please complete Table 2 of the "BOM_Sheet_EcoReport" sheet, listing the components of the product. Please then use
this list in the table below to fill out column G, to match the material with the specific component, if possible.

Please assign weights (in grammes or kilogrammes) or percentages to nearest material description. Note that if
percentages are assigned then you must provide total weight for the appliance. if you are not sure about allocating some
material to a particular category then please add rows with the material in respect in column A and/or B and use column F
for adding any comments.
In addition with this questionnaire we are seeking additional information on the following:

• Data on consumables (e.g. Number of seals/washers used in a given period)

• Bill of Material for the packaging
• Other environmental impacts (e.g. heavy metals, VOC emissions from painted parts, recycling)

We understand that you may not have comprehensive data for the above but if any kind of information is available please
share it with us by filling in the appropriate boxes in the 'Other Environmental Relevant Aspects' worksheet. For any
additional information on the 'product case' or the study in general please use the 'Other Info' worksheet.

When complete, please save the file with an appropriate name and send to:

We understand that you may not have comprehensive data for all, but we would very appreciative of any
information that you may have. This information will help inform the development of criteria for the EU Ecolabe
and GPP. Such topics may be linked to, for example, the choice of materials, production processes, product
ecodesign (including design or diassembly, design for repair), product warranty or guarantee and instructions f
installation.

If available please provide copies separately to support the provided data
