Characteristic IV Oral
150 mg/kg in 200 mL D5W infused over 1 hour, then 50 mg/kg in
140 mg/kg, followed 4 hours later by 70 mg/kg every 4 hours for 17
Regimen 500 mL D5W over 4 hours, followed by 100 mg/kg in 1,000 mL
doses diluted to 5% with juice or soft drinks

Anaphylactoid reactions (rash, hypotension, wheezing, dyspnea);
Adverse effects acute flushing and erythema in first hour of the infusion that Nausea, vomiting
typically resolves spontaneously
D5W, 5% dextrose in water for injection.
aFor patients <40 kg and those requiring fluid restriction, the total volume for dilution should be reduced as directed in the package insert.
