Unit I
International Dispute Settlement- Introduction : meaning and introduction, legal and political
disputes, pacific means of settlement-judicial and extra judicial, compulsive or coercive means of
settlement, recent trends
Unit II
International Court of Justice & ICC : composition of the court, jurisdiction of the court,
judgement of the court
Unit III
ADR as a tool to settle International Disputes : arbitration, mediation,conciliation,negotiation,
international dispute resolution through ADR
Unit IV
Maritime Disputes under ITLOS : ITLOS-introduction,composition,access to tribunal, applicable law
and cases decided by ITLOS, seabed disputes chamber-composition,special chambers,advisory
opinion,finality and binding force of decisions
Unit V
Intervention and Aggression : definition of intervention, kinds of intervention, justification of
intervention, definition of aggression,acts qualifying aggression, self determination and use of force
Unit VI
War and IHL : concept of war, declaration of war, effects of outbreak of war, IHL-law of war, modes
of terminating the war and hostilities, non international armed conflict, international armed conflict
