INDONESIA IN GLOBAL ECONOMY

NATURAL RESOURCES
Indonesia is an archipelago country, located in Southeastern Asia between the
Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, Indonesia covers a total area of 1,905 km2 and
has a tropical climate. Indonesia is rich in natural resources with all its flora, fauna
and hydrographic potential and its abundant natural resource deposits. Indonesia’s
natural resources come from agriculture, forestry, marine and fisheries, livestock,
plantation and mining and energy.

SUFFICIENT LABOR SUPPLY

Indonesia is the most populous country in Southeast Asia with a population of


about 260 million people, and around half of its population under the age of
30. A new study, conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OESO), reveals that Indonesia is among the nations that are the
least affected by population ageing. By 2050, for every Indonesian who is aged
above 65 years old, there are 4.3 Indonesians in the productive age (20-64 years
old) according to the study. Indonesia’s large and growing population, present

1. Primary Industry (Tax Holiday):

Palm Oil Industry • Investment opportunities in the downstream sector include product derivatives of Crude
Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) which is classified into food and non-food prod-
ucts. Derivatives products of CPO such as cooking oil, margarine, shortening, vanaspa-
ti, ice creams, bakery fats, instant noodle, soap and detergent, cocoa butter extender, choc-
olate and coatings, specialty fats, dry soap mixes, sugar confectionary, biscuits creams
fats, filled milk, lubrication, textiles and bio-diesel oil (fatty acid methyl esters, FAM).
Derivatives products of PKO such as shortening, cocoa butter substitute, specialty fats, ice cream,
coffee whitener/ cream, sugar confectionary, biscuits cream fats, filled mild, imitation cream, soap,
detergent, shampoo, surfactant, soap noodle, glycerine, fatty acid and cosmetics. Oleochemical de-
