through the years and an encouragement to all the
people of Singapore to work together for a better
Singapore.

people.
just 16 at that time. What do you call a place where
there are many viewers? Yes, Alessandra?

Precisely! Now, based from the answers you have : Sir, in my opinion, we call it public.
given, what do you think is our topic for today? Yes,
Jullianah?
: Public speaking, sir.
Correct! Today, we will discuss Public Speech or
public speaking. Are you ready?

E. Discussion / Analysis : Yes, sir. We are ready!

From the video you watched earlier, what do you

think is the definition of public speech? Yes, Alexa?

Brilliant! Public speech class, is the process or act of : In my understanding, I think public speech is the
performing an effective to a live audience or oral act of delivering a speech before an audience.
communication with the audience.

Now, for your activity, I will be giving you a

worksheet which is called the KWL chart. The class
will be divided into 4 groups. First three rows on the
right side will be the SPEECHies. The remaining rows
will be the SPEECHial. On the left side, students
seated on the first three rows will be the
SPEECHtacular and the last rows will be the
SPECHless group. For instructions, please read the
following:
: ppt

1. In five minutes, fill out the first two columns.
2. After five minutes, one representative from each
group will share your answers to the class.
Is everything clear?
: Yes, sir!

: (students do the activity)
Your time is up! Please stop writing. Now, let us hear
the answers of SPEECHies. To be followed by group
SPEECHial, SPEECHtacular and SPEECHless. Are
you ready? : Yes, sir!
February 20, 2018

Now, SPEECHies, please share your answers. (Students answer may vary)
: What we already know is that, a public speech is
the process of delivering a speech to an audience.
And what we want to know are the different types
of speech.
Who else have the same answer as the first group?
: Sir!
Okay, there are 3 types of Public speech and those are
the Informative, persuasive and Occasional or
entertaining.

When we say informative speech, what do we mean?

Yes, DJ? : It is a type of speech wherein it gives information
about something before an audience.

Very good! An informative speech is a speech which

main purpose is to present facts, knowledge or
information. Like concepts, events, objects and
processes. It also tries to teach something essential to
the audience. : I think, a persuasive speech aims to convince the
audience to agree or disagree to a certain topic.
What about, a persuasive speech? Yes, Gerome?

That’s correct. Its main goal is to reinforce or change

the audiences’ beliefs. Persuading them to agree on a
certain topic.

What about Occasional or Entertaining speech? Yes, : It simply entertains the audience it is lighter than
Glaiza? the first two types of speech that we have discussed.

Very nice idea! It aims to amuse the audience. Let us

say for example, speech of appreciation given y guests
of an occasion, acceptance and introduction.

With the definitions given, what type of speech is the

video you watched earlier? : Sir, I think that is an example of an occasional
speech.
That’s right!

Now, let us proceed to the next group.

(the same process will be applied until the last group)

Also, there are many ways on how to deliver a speech.

I am talking about a Impromptu, Extemporaneous,
Memorized and Manuscript.

Please read the definition of an impromptu speech and (student reads and explains the definition)
share your understanding, Sheena. : an impromptu speech is delivered with little or no
preparation. It is an on the spot speaking with no
preparation. This means that when you are well-
informed about the subject matter, you can do an
impromptu speech.
Brilliant! What about an extemporaneous speech?
Yes, Precious? : an extemporaneous speech is delivered with some
prepared structure such as notes or outline. This
means that a speaker is given a time to prepare for a
short time an outline but not very detailed.
Excellent! How about a memorized speech? Yes,
: it involves reciting the speech from memory. It is
Audrey?
a speech which is fully memorized. The speaker is
given time to think, write and memorize his speech
before delivering it.
February 20, 2018

Very Good! And lastly, we have the Manuscript

speaking. Kindly read and explain the definition, Bea. : it is the reading of speech word by word from its
written form. This means that a speaker is given
time to write. He is just going to read his speech but
should still look as speaker.
Great thinking! Also, remember that when you write
or deliver a speech, make sure to have the introduction
which contains the greetings, appreciation as well as
the introduction ad the topic to be elaborated. It must
also contain a body where you further elaborate the
topic and gives main point. Finally, do not forget your
conclusion, in this part, you can give a rhetorical
question to end the speech.

Did you understand our topic today class? : Yes, sir!

Now you may accomplish your worksheet. You will

be given 3 minutes.

Your time is up! Share now your answers to the class,

let us start with group 1. : (students share their answers)
