LEARNING COMPETENCIES/OBJECTIVES
At the end of the cycle, the students should be able to
 Describe how the heart functions
 Explain how blood is pumped by the heart.
 Explore the structure and function of the heart and blood
vessels.
ELICIT (10 minutes) MATERIALS
Show to the class a sponge soaked in a glass jar of water  A glass jar
with soap… As I grip the sponge, observe what happen to the with water

ENGAGE (10 minutes)
The students will watch a video clips showing how the heart Video

EXPLORE (30 minutes)


 Divide the class into five groups. Activity
 Let students draw figures of the major divisions of the notebook

ELABORATE (20 minutes)
Deepen the discussion by explaining one by one the following Flow Chart
facts: illustrating
 The heart is a hollow muscle organ, about the size of a blood flow
fist which is located at the center of the chest, in- activity
between the lungs.
 It is a double pump that pumps on the left and right
sides.
 Each side is divided into two chambers: top chamber
are the atria and bottom chamber are the ventricles
 The valve act as a one-way door, allowing the blood to
either forward in the next chamber or out of the heart.

in one direction.

 Describe how the heart function. In your own words.
EXTEND (10 minutes)
In a given framework of the human body below, illustrate Activity
