All parts of a question should be answered at one place.

Attempt all questions. Be brief and to the point.

1. (a) In the circuit, given in Fig. 1(a), find the current through resistance R = 10 Ω using
superposition theorem when Vs = 30 V . (b) If the value of Vs is doubled, find the current
through R = 10 Ω. (c) Find the power absorbed/delivered by the current source in case (b). [3+1+1]
(Note: Source conversion is not allowed in Q. 1)

2. In the circuit shown in Fig. 1(b), find the current through RL using Thevenin theorem. [5]

3. In a circuit, a resistor, a capacitor and a coil are connected in series, as shown in Fig. 2(a). The
capacitor C has a capacitance of 50µF and the current flowing through the circuit is 2.51 A.
If the voltages are as indicated, find the applied voltage V , frequency and the loss in the coil. [6]

4. The circuit as shown in Fig. 2(b), has a load having a resistance of 20Ω and an inductive
reactance of 15Ω. The input voltage is 230 V , 50 Hz. Find the value of the capacitor C, to
be inserted in the circuit, such that the current I is in phase with the applied voltage. Find
source current before and after the capacitor is connected. [4]

5. The magnetic circuit in Fig 3(a) has a uniform cross section of 10 cm2 . The AT supplied by [5]
the coil in limb-a is 7500, and the flux Φ1 = 1.22 mW b. Find flux Φ2 , Φ3 in limb-b and limb-c
respectively. The magnetic material used for the core has the following B/H characteristics

6. A three phase 50 Hz ac supply is connected to a load as shown in Fig. 3(b). All the switches [2+3]
move together to position 1 or position 2.
(a) Find phase currents, active and reactive powers consumed by the load when the switches
are at position 2.
(b) When the switches are at position 1, with the help of a phasor diagram, calculate two
wattmeter readings if the current coils of the meters are placed on line A and C and pressure
coils are placed between A-B and C-B, respectively. Also, calculate the active power consumed
by the load from the two wattmeter readings.
