3. In the given circuit as shown in Fig.3, 3
(a) Determine the power supplied by the source, source power factor, when
the given load voltage is 450V.
(b) Determine the values of the elements of the load.
4. A coil of inductance 31.8 mH with resistance of 12 Ω is connected in series 2
with a capacitor across 250 V, 50 Hz supply. Determine the value of
capacitance if no reactive current is taken from the supply. Also find the
voltage across the capacitor.
5. The star-connected balanced load having impedance of (12 – j16) Ω per phase 5
is connected in parallel with the delta-connected balanced load having
impedance of (27 +j18) Ω per phase (Fig. 4), and fed from a three-phase, 230
V, balanced supply, with the phase sequence as R-Y-B. For this combination
find the line current, power factor, total power & reactive VA, and also total
volt-amperes (VA). Draw the necessary phasor diagram.
6. There is a magnetic circuit as shown in Fig.5(a). the relative permeability of 2+2+1 =
the iron is 800. The number of turns of the coil is 1000. Calculate the current 5
required to produce 1.2T in the air gap. (All dimensions are in cm if not

Now another specimen S of same permeability is added to the circuit shown
in Fig5(b). The area of cross section is uniform throughout. Calculate the new
current if the same flux density of 1.2T is maintained in the air gap. Comment
on your answer with reference to the current flowing in the coil under two
situations. (All dimensions are in cm if not specified)
