COMMEMORATION
Under our Burki Outreach Program 2018-Education,
the Lahme School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center has designed a series of storytelling sessions with
the support of the Lahore School student volunteers.
The program revolves arOLrnd enlightening students on
various topics such as innovation & technology, history,
current affairs, cultu re, foil<tales ere. and conducting
healthy discussion rounds in different underprivileged
institutes.
Our first session was held at Bait-ul-Islam school in
Burki area on the 12th of September 2018 and the second
session was held at Friends Public Model school on 19th
September, 2018. These particular storytelling sessions
were to honor our national heroes who fought w1th bravery
and sacrib.ced their lives to protect Pakistan's sovereignty.
The sitting also highlighted the military gallantry awards
that were awarded to soldiers who showed exttaordinary
bravery to combat enemies and protect Pakistan's borders.

MEHMOOD FOUNDATION
The Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility Center
(LS-CSRC) has always been on the from foot with social
welfare activities for the deserving, workjng with a wide
range of local social sector startups. This time around,
an educational trip ro Army Museum was organized fo r
orphans at Altaf Mehmood Foundation. The visit took
place oo Wednesday, September 26th 20'18. The objective
of chis exercise was to reach young minds about their
nation's history and strength. The \7isit highlighted the
intensity of the sacrifice, resolve and pride of the men in
uniform. Ch ildren were educated about historical incidents
and ongoing challenges faced by ou r armed forces on the
borders. The museum also gave kids a chance to view
h_istorica] war. artifacts and tales attached to them.

T he Labore School Corporate Soda] Responsibility
Center, under its Burki Oucreacb Program- E ducatiot1,
teamed up with the Hope Public School ro organize a
scie nce fair held on 11 t b Octobe r, 2018. Differe nt stalls
were set up in o rder to demonstrate a ,·ariety of interesting
experiments on a number of basic science topics selected
from st udents' course books. D iffu sion, acid a nd alkaline
solutions, magnetism and density concepts were touched
upon for kids understanding. The theories behind the
experime nts were explained in detai l :tnd students were
given the opportunity to engage and conduct these
exper iments themselves.

~very semester the Lahore School Corporate Social
Responsibility Center conducts its Reading Buddy
Program, under its Community Outreach Program
- Education, to facilitate underprivileged schools
improve English language ski lls. The project consists a
series of sittings where various activities arc conducted
that alJow children co polish rheir listening, speaking,
reading and writing skills. This time the Reading Buddy
(JII) program was carried out at AJ-Shaflq foundation
Trust for gi rls. The girls at the shelter enthusi:mically
participated in all the sessions. The management at
the rrust applauded the efforts of the Lahore School
dedicated student volunteers and insisted to repeat the
program in the upcoming semester.

now. My experience here, has given me great opportunities co
learn and grow and provided me a platform co advocate my
empathy & use my positive energies in the right direction. It was
a very humbling experience. I taught aspiring children from less
fortunate schools in the outskirts of Burki village, how co read
in English, through my society's organized program 'Reading
Budd/ A language which plays essential role in our education, we made it fun and ea~
for children co get the basic understanding of it. I also had the privilege co work with
LS-CSRC's another progress recently, a computer literacy program foryoung girls, in an
orphanage. My experience was so overwhelming Icould notbe moreproudofwhat these
young incriguing souls are capable of. I'm very grate ful co my society for chis delightful
experience chac Igee to teach these aspiringyounggirls & played my small role in building
our country's future, a tech smarc future. Also, my experience working here, served as a
cwo way learning process, I caught chem what I was supposed co & chey caught me how
co find happiness in the litde chings. This was overall a very productive experience. And it

Contests and compctmons are among the best ways to
stimulate faculties in people of all ages. For students it's a
chance to learn beyond what's t.'l.ught within the classroom
boundaries. To help students learn and acquire new skills
and creative abilities, the Labo.re School Corporate Social
Responsibility Center (LS-CSRC) organized an Art Contest
'Green IJa kistan' at the Lahore School Burki Campus.
Sixteen schools participated with two teams representing
each school. A total of sixty-four smdents competed each
other, artisticalJy painting their view of 'Green Pakistan'.
The art work was judged on four aspects: execution of

theme, color scheme, creative use ofimages & text and the
final creation. The Lahore School's a.rtist-in-.resiclence Mr.
Shahid Mirza guided students and judged their artwork.
Every painting presented was nnigue and well thought of
but there could be only one winner. The first place trophy
went to team from Door of Awareness. The first tunnet-
up was from Bunyad Foundation and the second .runner-
up tcrun was from Govt. GPS Natha Singh (managed
by CARE Foundation). To show appreciation for the
time, effort and hard work all participants were given a
certificate of appreciation.

NUTRITION - AWARENESS

Eat healthy, live healthy!
The Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center conducted an awareness session on Health
& Nutrition at Alcaf Mchmood Foundation under
its Community Outreach Program - H ealth on 13th
N ovember 2018. The session focused on theimportance
of a balanced diet. The benefits of food groups, namely:
carbohydrates, proteins, fats, oils and vitamins were
discussed in detail. Smdent volunteers showed videos
that highlighted the benefits of consuming organic
food and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Comparison
were made on how junk and healthy intake of food
affects our bodies.

FRIENDLY MATCH
On November 1" a friendly football march was organized
by the Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center at the Lahore School football grottnd. Two
underpriviJeged schools, 1 lnpc Public and Friends
Model Public teams were invited co participate. Players
got the opportunity to rcceiv<.: coaching from a hired
professional football coach. Since both the schools had
been practicing beforehand, all players were eager to
show off techniques rhey had learned making the friendly
match a foo:rce battle g round. All in all , teams shc>wed
great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and dctcunination on
and off tbe ground. Students were rewarded with gifts,
participation certificates, refreshments and a pro mise to
hold more of such events.

Phase I, rhe LS-CSRC introduced the second phase, in
spring semester 2019 at Al-Shafiq Foundation Trust.
Having taught .MS Word and PowerPoint previously,
phase II focused oo MS Excel. lo this phase students

and statistical applications io Excel.
Our volunteers beld seven sessions over the period of
fout months. This time arou nd children were quizzed on
computing skills taught through various practical exercises.

We, at the Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center, are mindful of the fact that emotional support
can make a big difference to the guality of life of someone
with cancer. The more tbe love and care such patients
receive, the higher the patients' spirit to fight the illness.
The Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center (LS-CSRC) organized a visit, under the banner of
its Community Outreach Progtam- Health, to Shaukat
Khanum Memorial Hospital Lahore on the 23rd of
January. The aim of the visit was to show support to
cancer patients in the chemotherapy and children ward.
Our volunteers expressed encour~gement and words
of support, held bedside activities and distributed gift
hampers among the patients. It gave us a great pleasure
to sec happy smiling faces at the end.

Solidarity Day" awareness session at t\VO schools - Friends
Public Model on 12th February and Bait-ul- lslam on
19th February 2019. The aim of this activity was to raise
awareness about Kashmir and the importance of Sch
February for Pakistan. The students were briefed about
historical, geographical, polirical, social and cultural

many realizations and lessons. I haven't just been able co step out of my shoes and been forced co see through c1
perspective that could not see or experience privilege or encic/emenc like I did My experience caught me the idea
ofgenuineness; when I would go co underprivileged schools, I did never see a student as a product oftheir limiting
circumstances, I saw a writer, an actor, a leader, a public speaker or someone simply a genuine human being. My
experience caught me thac deep ac heart, were all just the same, we just have co cake different routes but our
destinations are more or less very similar. The ace ofgiving, ro give one's time and energy co kids I had never met
just to see them grow showed me what love and nurcuring means, in very real terms.'

ACTING WORKSHOP

A dramatics workshop was from February 25 to Febrnary 29,
o rganized by the Lahore School 2019. It was conducted by the Lahore
Corporate Social Responsibility School's highly talented student,
Centre under its Burki Ot1treach Fatima Qureshi, member of the
Program 2019 - E ducation at The Lahore School D.ramatics Society.
1-lope Public School. This workshop The workshop focused on teacbing
extended over the course of 5 days secondary level students the basics of
theatre through interesting exercises
such as action reaction, trust exercise
and voice throw. The purpose of
this workshop was to educate the
participants about the importance of
theatre and to help them discover the
actor within.

The Lahore School Corporate ocial Responsibility
Center, following its dramarics workshop, conducted an
educatio na l play at Hope Public School on l\farch 19,
2019. The play, 'Sha hi Tajo ri ' was written and directed by
our very ralcntcd CSRC Ambassador, Fatima Qu reshi.
Th is 20 minu tes lo ng play depicted the reasons of the
downfall of rhe great Mughal Empire. 14 enchusiastic
students from Hope Public School participated in the
SPRING 2019 31
play. The e\•ent starred with the reciration of the Holy
Quran, followed by rhe performance of the piny and gift
distributio n ceremony. In the e.nd, The Lahore School
CSRC Head, Ms. Maheen Chaudhry addressed the
audience in a speech that highl ighted the importance
o f recogn i;dng one's ability and talent as an actor and
co nsidering dramatics an important sou rce of personal
and social growth.

SPELLING BEE
BATTLE OF BURKI
The Lahore School Corporate Social Responsibility
Center (LS-CSRC) organized a spelling bee
competition on 26th March, 2019. T he aim of this
competition was to help students learn and grow by
increasing their vocabula ry and grammar and also
to inculcate in them a spirit o f competitive academic
learning. The competition took place at the Lahore
Scbool's SGS Libniry. Students of grades 5 and 6 fro m
ten diffe rent schools participated in the contest. T he
competition was conducted in five progressive rounds,
namely: Practice, Rnpid Fire, Knock Out, Buzzer
and Final Round. The judging panel consisted of Dr.
Azam Chaudhry, Dean D epa rtment of Ecoo mics, Dr.
Teresa Chaudhry, Faculty of Economics, Ms. Maheen
Chaudhry, I lead LS-CSRC a nd the two vigilant student
volunteers. All teams showed great enthusiasm but it
was the Ca re Foundation School Rehamanpura that

led a choir encouraging kids ar the

patrioric songs. The children proved
to be a zestful crowd, singing along to
the national SOJlbYS and enjoying every
bit of it while waving their flags in joy.

Fund (WWP). The drive aims to
plant 700 Nimcree ( eem) at Lahore
School Agriculrurc & Economics
Research Center (A ERC). Nim tree
is known for its medicinal properties
and has been vastly used co treat skin
issues. The species is evergreen and
helps remove carbon dioxide from
the atmosphere all year round.

My experience with LS-CSRC is

inexplicable. Working with LS-CSRC was
the best experience I've ever had My
perspective has changed and broadened
in w~s I couldn't imagine by working
with chose litc/e children. I got co work
with a government school on Burki road
and a girl's orphanage. Loving, caring,
sharing and respect are che things chat I
have learned during my three community
service placements. Dealing with children isn't easy as it requires
patience. Giving back co communities is not something we easily do
as young people. I am forcunace co say chat che LS-CSRC program
really changed my life and made me want co do more. Working
wich chem has given me more confidence. These volunteering
experiences further opened my eyes co che needs ofmy community
and che many opporcunicies co serve by volunteering
I feel ecstatic chinking I goc co give back co the community. Even
if I could teach just two words co these children, it means so
much come.
I had a great time with children and ocher people participating in che
program. Overall ic was a very rewarding and humbling experience.

1&TH HEALTH CAMP
A free medical health camp was organized for the
deprived community of Burki area by the Lahore
School Corporate Social Responsibility Cemer (LS-
CSRC) on 28th June 2019 at Sharif Hospital. Dr. Bagar
Shrif (General Physician, Sha rif Medical Hospital),
Dr. Umme-Rubab (consultant Hospitalist, Shaukat
Khanum) and Dr. Anadil Facph (consultant Hospitalist,
Shaukat K hanum) provided medical consultancy to the
patients. A tOtal of 153 patients were treated in a period
of 4 hours.
