ESP

Electric submersible pumps are used as an artificial lift method to produce from 150 to
60,000 bfpd.

- Effective and economical means of lifting large volumes from great depths
- Performs at highest efficiency when pumping liquid only
- Operating life expected 1 to 3 years
- Motor and pump rotate at 2,900 rpm for 50 Hz power
PCP

Simple Design: easy to replace rotor and stator

. High Volumetric Efficiency: in absence of gas
. High energy Efficiency: acts as positive
displacement pump
. Emulsions not formeddue to low pumping action
. Capable of pumping viscous crude oils

Elastomers swell in some viscous crude oils

 Pump off control difficult

 Problems with rotating rods increase with well depth
THE BEST THREE OPTIONS (Subject to change)

Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP)

Pros Cons
Moderate cost Lose efficiency with depth
High electrical efficiency Pumped-off controller is difficult

Gas lift
Pros Cons
Can handle large volumes of solids with minor Lift gas not always available
problems
Lifting gassy wells has no problem Difficult to lift emulsion and viscous crudes
Easy to obtain downhole pressures and Gas freezing and hydrate problems
gradient

Plunger lift
Pros Cons
Very inexpensive installation Good for low rate wells only
Applicable for high gas oil ratio wells Requires more engineering supervision to
adjust properly
Automatically keeps tubing clean of paraffin, Danger exist in plunger- reaching too high
scale velocity & causing surface damage
