I. Objectives:
1. Identify the parts of a sentence.
2. Define what is a subject and a predicate.
3. Relate the parts of a sentence into life.
4. Construct sample sentences.
5. Label the parts of a sentence.
III. Procedure:
a. Motivation
The teacher will let four pupils to pick a word in the box. Then they will
going to spell through the use of body language. The rest of the class will guess
what the words are being spelled in front.
b. Presentation
The teacher will ask the class those words that were spelled and write them
on the board. The teacher will then ask someone to tell what is the topic based on
the words written on the board.
c. Discussion
The teacher will let the pupils to look at the pictures presented on the board
and read the sentences.
The teacher will ask what a sentence is. Going back to the sentences on the
board, the teacher will ask the pupils’ ideas what are the subjects and the predicates
on the sentences.
Based on the examples given, the teacher will ask the pupils to define what
is a subject and a predicate.
The teacher will let the pupils to give their own examples then identify what
are the subjects and the predicates.
d. Fixing skills
The teacher will let the pupils to read a passage entitled, “First Airplane
Trip”. Afterwards, the teacher will let the pupils to label and underline the parts.
One line for the subject and two lines for the predicates. Then check if the answers
are correct.
Jake is going on a trip. He and Mom take a taxi to the airport. “It’s my first plane trip,” he
tells the taxi driver. “That’s great!” the taxi driver says. Jake rolls his suitcase onto the plane. “It’s
my first plane trip,” he tells the pilot. “Welcome aboard,” the pilot says. Jake finds his seat and
buckles his seatbelt. The plane’s engines rumble and roar. Jake opens his backpack and pulls out
Panda. “It’s my first plane trip,” he whispers. He holds Panda’s paw. The plane moves faster and
faster. Then—Whoosh! On the ground, cars and houses look like toys. Jake smiles. “Guess what,
Panda?” he says. “Flying is fun!”
e. Generalization
The teacher will give a crumpled paper and the pupils will sing a song.
While singing, the crumpled paper will be pass to each other until the teacher will
say “STOP”. Then the pupil who holds the paper last will define what a subject is.
The pupils will do it again and the next pupil will define what a predicate is.
IV. Evaluation
Read each sentence. Encircle the subject and underline the predicate.
V. Assignment
A. Provide an appropriate predicate for each subject that follows.
