INTRODUCTION
Law and society have always been connected as it helps in efficient running of
society.Indian society from back days has been full of traditions and practices in
which some were seen as social evil like THE SATI or the practice of
UNTOUCHABILITY. Laws have been able to bring about a change in these
scenarios and changed many people’s position in society. Earlier the laws of the
society were based on Vedas and manuscripts, sruti and smriti etc .all these were
unjust for common masses and needed to be changed. With India getting
independence there was a hope for people that new laws will be made for them
which will prove to be beneficial for them. Laws can act as an instrument for social
justice which people didn’t get because of the orthodox society.
When parliament was established it had to look into these problems and hence
make rules and regulations. The role of the parliament was much required in these
types of cases .The parliament along with the judiciary have been able to bring
about these much needed changes.
Moreover reforms were needed to be made to keep the society running forward
with the times. These many changes helped people to have a larger say in the
governance.
