ASME B18.22.1 1965 PLAIN WASHERS WASHERS. (R998) es IFINOTES: 1. ASME 818.22.1 is a standard developed through the procedures of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. B18.22.1 is under the jurisdiction of ASME Standards Committee B18, and is the di- rect responsibility of its Subcommittee 22. 2. The latest edition of B18.22.1 was published in 1965 and at that time was designated ANS! 827.2. In 1975 the standard was reaf- firmed and reissued with its new designation B18.22.1. In 1998 the standard was again reaffirmed without any change in technical content of the 1965 edition. 3. IFl endorses the recommendation of B18,22.1 that when selecting Type A washers, priority consideration be given to the preferred washer sizes detailed in Table 1A. 4. ASME B18.22.1-1965 (R 1998) is reprinted with the permission of its publisher, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Three Park Avenue, New York, NY 10016-5990, U.S.A. 4, INTRODUCTORY NOTES. torquing. It is intended that these series desig- nations should be discontinued and that the 44 Scope 4.4.4 This standard covers two types of gen- eral purpose plain washers designated as Type Aand Type B. 1.1.2 The inclusion of dimensional data in this standard is not intended to imply that all of the products described herein are production items. Consumers are requested to consult with manu- facturers concerning lists of stock production sizes. 1.2. Types of Washers 1.2.4. Type A. The Type A plain washers were originally developed in a light, medium, heavy, and extra heavy series with proportions that were related to the dimensions of bolt heads and nuts principally to minimize embedding and to aid ‘© 2003 Industrial Fasteners Instituto washers should be identified by their nominal dimensions. Washer selection should be made preferably from the preferred sizes shown in ‘Table 1A. In the event the desired Type A washer is notlisted in Table 1A, reference may be made to Table 18. 1.2.2 Type B. The Type B plain washers are available in a narrow, regular and wide series with proportions designed to fulfil the custom- ary purpose of distributing load over larger ar- eas of lower strength materials. Suitable washer selection can be made by referring in Table 2 to the nominal screw or bolt size and selecting the appropriate width series for the application. 4.3. Dimensions All dimensions in this standard are given in inches, unless otherwise stated. =a 'ASHERS PLAIN WASHERS ASME B18.22.1 1965 (R 1998) 1.4 Materials 1.4.1 Plain washers shall be made of ferrous or nonferrous metal, plastic or other material as specified. The tolerances indicated in the tables are intended for metal washers only. (IFl Note: ASTM F844, page L-20, covers chemical and mechanical properties of un- hardened stee! washers.) 1.4.2 If hardened washers are required, they are available as a stamped product without break or gap and as a flat coiled product with gap narrow enough to prevent tangling. Suitable mechanical properties for hardened stamped plain washers are covered by ASTM F436, page L-24. Applicable properties for plain washers coiled from wire shall be AIS! 1060 steel, or ‘equivalent, heat treated to a hardness of Rock- well C45 to 53, 1.5 Quality Washers shall be free from burrs, loose Scale, sharp edges and all other defects that might affect their serviceability. 4.6 Terminology For definitions of terms relating to wash- ers or features thereof used in this standard, refer to ASME B18.12, page N-1. © 2003 Industrial Fasteners institute ASME B18.22.1 1965 PLAIN WASHERS WASHERS mee) — Table 1A Dimensions of Preferred Sizes of Type A Plain Washers z = ¢ Nominat Inside Diameter Outside Diameter Thickness ner Tolerance Tolerance ‘Size Basic Basic Basic | Max | Min Fin [woe] °°" [ie [uae = Tas] oo Pas [aw [aow [ow | ome som [aoe = Sine | fen fous | eae | wow | ears | omso| seas | are = = 2'es| som | Sar | oar | ome | oars | ce| oxo | Sars ss ons _| 61se| S| So | Garo | sors | se | omc sows | soso 301m | ore 0008 Pons | oa] 00% [0s | wove] eons | oe se Gis | E26| ome | sos | 50 | aos | ome | sou | ome | one aie ies | oa ears| sox | same |oors | exe | omc | secs | Soe gta | 625 | oor | eos | ez | sors | ons | Ss | ono | oe ena wT oaei] ons one Yes Pre Poms | cox] oom | ost te Gass w | oda| ooss| ome | era | ore | om | ons | orcs | om ia G32 W | 03] on | 9m: | oss | tors | oor | soss| tom | esr 3 Sis_ssra_W_| oor eots| sons | tors | some | oor | oma] stor | see ae ass W | ease] ons] ams ome | oni] sor] cos] oc | ost A ae Gare | Sase| ome] aocs | tm | sou | acer | oma aves | oe re Gaza | outs| ovs| Gon | cams | cove | eoxr | ous | om | sos iis_Sass__| osco| oot ont | 20 | sou | oer | ous | ioe | oct v2 asm nT eser] oor] aa | 10m | oma] oor | ows] ovat | ome We Sm w | oa] ons | ome | 121s | oom | ovr | eves] arcs | ore ate Sasa | oss ont some | rae | cow | seer | ome | att | soe Sis_Saea_v_| oass| oot | us| tee | sow | oer | ovo | ote | owe seas waste] om] oor Pst Tom Paoer | om ora | aor Se Gass | Sone | om | oor | tae | om | soer | ora | 0 | sen St Ge | Seis] osm | bor | zs | om | Boer | ens | 0 | Se ¢ at Siow | Sara oam| stor | 20m | Som | soor | oie |r| ae i 7m oars [asm] oon] coor [172 | om oor [ove] ove] ome 7m tare w | asue| 9am | vor | 22m | om | aoor | exes | ote | sie = 80 Ws | Ree] Goze] esr | Zim | om | omer | Sise| one | os 1158 _W_| tee] Sess | oar | #80 | osm | oar | Sea] ons | ose Tastes wn ] t20] 208] ower | 2950] om] om | ase] o760] 918 ia Las w | tae] oon | oar | 270 | ons | oar | eves] ons | ore Ee age W | (5re] Soi] ear | 23m | oa | our | See] ons | ose ta_10_w_| 137s] 890 | aor | Sap | ons | Goor | tues] suse | eae Taste —N-] 1500] 20x | aaar] 2750 om | omar] ores] arse] one TSe ide w | 122] 20] ear | Sz | ome | os | sie] oz | ons Eg Vaso | 128] Goss] Sue | 3m | om | ome | ies] ons | oss EVE 1S w|i] sos | Sav | $0 | sae | oan | Sian] oz | ons Tatas | 1750) 90 om [9750] a0 [oor] awe] oars Parse TSE 19% | iat| $085] Soro] tae | oa | oso | aie] ozs | ors Te Lis | luo| S98] Sai | £36 | Sats | Save | aim] 92s | ons 5 sao __| 26s] oscs| | 435 | soe | oo | sao] ears | wise Zia _sa0 [ass] ous Paow [are [eos Poor | ozo [a2 [a Ele $8 | Sars] 265 | Sore | som | Sous | Gore | ozs] same | oso E34 Free | Bers| ns | Sore | 20 | Gone | Sore | ozs | are | oan Sus 3% | og [sor | Ss | ome | sav | ae] ou | oa Sana 238 : NOTES: (1) Preferred sizes are for the mast part from series previously designated “Standard Plate” and “SAE* Where common sizes existed in the two series, the SAE size Is designated °N" (narrow) and the ‘Standard Plata "W" (wide), These sizes as well as all other sizes of Type A Plain Washors are to be ‘ordered by ID, OO and thickness dimensions.
