DIFFERENCES
The Edition and Addenda of the Code to be used is based on the Contract
Received Date for the ASME Code constructed product.
Code as published six months before the contract date.
This date will establish the Edition and Addenda of ASME Code Section II to
be used.
Code material requirements are
located in:
ASME Foreword
■ Materials produced to standards other than SA or SB may be
identical or similar to materials included in Section II.
■ These "other" materials may be used when permitted by the
construction Code section.
■ Such other standards may be:
ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials),
those recognized by national or international organizations.
■ When the material specification is ASTM, Appendix A of
Section II Parts A and B identifies:
■Construction Code section(s) allowing the use of such
material,
■Publication year(s) of the ASTM specification deemed
equivalent to the corresponding ASME specification (except
for editorial differences).
Excerpt From Appendix A of Section II, Part A
When The Material Is Other Than ASME SA/SB
or The ASTM Equivalent:
■ An equivalency review for recertification may be conducted
in accordance with UG-10(a) using the:
■written specification used to produce the material, and
■the ASME Section II specification to which equivalency is
desired.
■ NOTE: simply reviewing the material test report against the
Section II specification is not acceptable.
Pressure Parts
■ UG-4(a) General
Material subject to stress due to pressure shall conform to one
of specifications given in Section II and as permitted in
Subsection C, except as otherwise permitted in:
UG-9 welding materials
UG-10 non code and/or unidentified material
UG-11 prefabricated or preformed pressure parts
UG-15 product specification comparison
Nonpressure Parts
■ UG-4(b) General
Material for nonpressure parts such as skirts, supports, baffles,
lugs, clips and extended heat transfer surfaces:
- need not conform to the specifications for the material to
which they are attached;
- or to a material specification permitted by this Division,
but if attached by welding shall be of weldable quality [see
UW-5(b)].
Miscellaneous Requirements
■ UG-4(c) The method of production is not limited, unless so
stated in the specification.
■ UG-4(d) Use of material other than allowed by this Division is
not permitted without approval of the B&PV Committee.
■ UG-4(e) Limits on size or thickness given in the specification do
not apply when permitted in Subsection C.
■ UG-4(f) Recommended that the user or his designated agent
determine suitability of the materials used during the service life.
Material Product Forms
■ UG-5 Plate
