Diagnostic Trouble Codes Tools: Volt Ohm Meter Knowledge of: VOM use
1. Key on, use diagnostic software, tool or blink codes to find problem - Step 4 - - Step 5 -
sensor. Key off.
OL OL
2. Remove appropriate connector from ECU. Find problematic
sensors pins. Set VOM to ohms “Ω” scale. Resistance must be
stable - no drifting of VOM readings permitted. Write values below. Ω Ω
Note that resistance values assume 12V Electrical System

3. Measure Ω across pins. (Example shown probes right rear sensor.)
Spec: 1500-2500 Ω ______ Ω ______ Ω
Connector X1 Connector X1
Pin 15 Pin 14
4. Measure Ω from each of the two pins to Ground (Connector X1 Pin 15). Ground Battery
Spec: infinite (OL) Ω. ______ Ω ______ Ω

6. Test 3-5 not OK? Go to step 7. Test 3-5 OK? Continue step 8.
If test 3-5 passed, wet harness. Assistant flexes wet sensor wire
harness from wheel to ECU connector. Repeat step 3-5.
7. Repair / Replace sensor of wire harness
8. Check sensor output per instruction on Page 2 Ω

Wheel Speed Sensor Application: EC-60 ABS Wheel Speed Frame
Diagnostic Trouble Codes Tools: Volt Ohm Meter Knowledge of: VOM use
CODES: Excessive Air Gap, Output Low at Drive-off, Loss of Sensor Signal, Erratic Sensor Signal
CAUSE: Poor speed signals to ECU.
LOOK FOR: Excessive gap, exciter ring run-out, improper bearing adjustment, wire rubbing or chafing,
loose sensor clip, non-twisted pair wires, electrical noise on sensor wires.
Bendix recommends twisted pair sensor harnesses to cancel electrical noise
Dynamic Sensor DTC’s
ü Best practice: perform “Sensor Static Fault ” checks and repairs prior to beginning Dynamic checks.
4. Measure VAC output from sensor.
1. Key on, use diagnostic software or tool, Example below is for left drive sensor.
the blink code switch, to determine DTC Minimum sensor output: .25 volts AC.
of the sensor. Key off. OK? è go to 5.
Not OK? è Regap sensor.
2. Lift problem wheel end with floor jack. Is output ZERO? è Go to Static
Wheel must spin freely by hand. Sensor Faults
Remove wire harness connector which Page 1
sensor is located at from Bendix ECU. .25 VAC
Find problematic sensor pins on ECU 5. Assistant spins wheel as fast as
harness connector from diagram below. or greater possible. Wheel must coast by itself
Probe pins gently . down to zero. Must spin at least 1 full
revolution on its own before stopping.
3. Assistant spins wheel.
0.5 revolution per second. V~ Sensor output should decay smoothly.
Did sensor voltage output decay smoothly
Speed kept steady. downward with no upticks?
OK?ègo to 6.
Not OK èRetrue/replace exciter ring-
Step 4 see Page 3 of Dynamic Sensor.
