The Fuel of Life

A useless organism that consumes food and eliminates body wastes called “manure” that can be
helpful in alleviating the major problems in our environment and sustains the basic necessities of
people in everyday life.

Biogas is a type of biofuel that is naturally produced from the decomposition of organic waste such
as animal manure and food scraps.

To produce biogas, organic matter must be breaked down in an aerobic environment of absent of
oxygen and this process is called anaerobic digestion

“Gumagamit kami ng Anaerobic Bacteria na kumakain ng mga tae ng baboy. Tapos kinukulong namin
at nilalagyan namin ng tubo para maitransfer sa mga kalan” Rosh Aaron Guiruela,son of the owner
said.

Anaerobic Digestion uses the process of fermentation to breakdown organic matter. This process
gives access to “acidogenic bacterias” which converts sugar and amino acids into carbon dioxide and
other forms of organic acid then the “methanogens” which converts the organic acid into methane
to create flammable energy.

Biogas regulates the clean atmosphere because it takes methane and converts it into carbon dioxide,
the safer form of gas in terms of heat trapping capabilities than can cause greenhouse effect.

“Hindi siya amoy dumi ng baboy. Sa tagal na namin dito yan na ang ginagamit at natatangay lang ng
hangin yung amoy” Ines Santa Maria said.

Due to the high content of methane in biogas, it produces a deep blue flame, good enough to be
used as a renewable heat energy.

Guiruela Farm distributes free biogas to the residents of a small vilage in Siranglupa.

“Sharing is caring, Talamak naman ang supply ng biogas siyempre mamigay nalang tayo habang hindi
pa namin siya naiisipang gawing source of energy. Para din naman yon sa community na malapit sa
amin” his son added.

In an age of worrying about the climate change and fossil fuel decline the benefits of the biogas are
obvious in todays world yet it is unappreciated due to the lack of knowledge and only people who
dares to explore things will benefit the good possibilities in accordance to their food for the
environment.
