Appendix 1 Well Engineering (Drilling & Testing Phases)

th
This Well Examination Report was constructed using the HSE Notification for Drilling, dated March 2001, the Drilling Programme dated 13 April 2001 and
the signed-off version of the well testing programme dated May 2001.

Item Completed Comments

Section A – Prediction of Subsurface Conditions

1. Maps Received 16 March 2001 Maps and diagrams included with the HSE Notification confirm transmission of data from
exploration to drilling groups. Geotechnical document not provided for examination but a
summary was provided in the HSE Notification.

2. Offset Data Reviewed 16 March 2001 Offset wells defined and assessed as part of the geotechnical and drilling design process for
this well. HSE Notification contains full description of pressure and temperature regimes as
determined from offset well data.

3. Lithology Column Received 16 March 2001 The formation tops defined in the HSE Notification agree with those provided in the
geological prognosis.

4. Pressure Plot Completed 27 March 2001 Although provided in diagrammatic form by geotechnical document await updated well
montage for clarification/
29 March 2001 Montage provides pressure diagram which reflects contents of HSE Notification.

5. Fracture Gradient Plot Completed 27 March 2001 Although provided in diagrammatic form by geotechnical document await updated well
montage for clarification
29 March 2001 Montage provides pressure diagram which reflects contents of HSE Notification.

6. Anticipated Reservoir Fluid Gradients 28 March 2001 Determined from the Geotechnical document and included in the HSE Notification. Gas
gradient 0.037 psi/ft; Oil gradient 0.347 psi/ft

7. Wellbore Fluid Composition 28 March 2001 Defined in the HSE Notification

8. Estimated Bottom Hole Temperature 28 March 2001 Defined in the HSE Notification and on the well montage

9. Temperature vs. Depth Plot 28 March 2001 Not required.

10 Kick Margin (for each hole section) 20 March 2001 >100 bbl in the 12.1/4” section with a 15.5 ppg FIT at the shoe. Good enough to drill to TD in
this hole section although there is a contingency to set 9.5/8” casing should problems occur

11 Maximum Anticipated Surface Pressure (for each hole section) 28 March 2001 Surface pressure of roughly 2600 psi could be seen in the worst case with gas to surface
from a failed shoe in 12.1/4” hole section.
With a contingency 9.5/8” casing string set BG have taken this value to be reservoir pressure
until such time as log results show otherwise.

Classification: Restricted to BG Group Personnel

17 Casing Pressure Test Requirements (for each casing string) 28 March 2001 13 3/8”: 2000 psi, based on circulating out a 100 bbl kick.
9 5/8”: 4500 psi but will be revised following MDT results should the 9.5/8” casing be run.

18 Maximum Surface Pressure (Flowing) 28 March 2001 Not calculated but less than the 4346 psi which has been defined as the worst-case surface
pressure – see below.
19 Maximum Surface Pressure (Shut in) 28 March 2001 Realistically set at 1500 psi when circulating out a 100 bbl kick while drilling 12.1/4” hole
section with 13.3/8” shoe breakdown. Absolute worst case is +/- 4300 psi which was
developed from a series of unlikely scenarios.
th
6 May 2001 Predicted at +/- 1700 psi for the well testing phase

20 Site Survey Completed 28 March 2001 Results of site survey not reported in well notification. Summary document states that this
was performed and the December 2000 report indicates that shallow gas is not expected.

21 Conductor / Riser Tensioning Requirements 26 March 2001 Ocean Nomad equipment capabilities not exceeded for riser and tensioning requirements

22 Proximity to other Hazards (e.g. H2S, Lost Circulation, etc.) 28 March 2001 H2S encountered on offset wells and procedures will be in place for dealing with this during

Examiners Comments

General Comments: This document represents the design phase for this well operation which is to be performed by BG. From both legislative and well planning points-of-view the
standard of the design and programming work is considered to be high.
The inclusion of the well examiner at the off-site Peer Review was a worthwhile exercise as it demonstrated BG’s commitment to working in unison with its
contractors as well as giving all personnel the opportunity to examine and comment upon the planned operations.
