Types of Earrings

Drop Earrings

Drop earrings are those that drop just below the earlobe. The drop earrings are mostly simple pieces
with attachments such as gemstones, beads or charms falling from the base of the earring. Even if the
earring drops slightly below the earlobe, the piece of ornament is stationary and does not move. ⠀
Moreover, the hanger used for drop earrings is usually posted with an "o-ring" for the drop piece.

Dangle Earrings

Dangle earrings are those that hand and swing to and fro or from side to side. Dangle earring typically
hangs below the earlobe and move. The length of the hanger varies from brand to brand. Some are
short while some are longer and can even brush the shoulders. The style can be a single chain dropping
from the hook and holding an ornament, usually a gemstone or a bead. In some other style, the hook
can branch off into different layers of equal or unequal length.
Drop Dangles

These are hybrids of Drop and Dangle type: These earrings just drop below earlobe and also swing
freely.

Hoops

Hoop earrings have a small wire piece that penetrates the ear and connects to the other end of the
hoop on the back side of the ear, creating the complete circle. Traditionally, hoops are circular, but as
they have grown in popularity, you will see all sorts of different shapes such as squares, ovals, or
triangles.
Chandeliers

Chandelier earrings get their name because they are shaped like a chandelier, but in a lot of cases, they
might dangle as well. They attach to ear at the earlobe and drop down, often consisting of multiple
levels of decorations. They might form a teardrop shape but have multiple dangling pieces hanging from
that piece. They are beloved for their fancy appearance, as they are often constructed with many jewels
and decorations.

Huggies

Huggies are a variation of the hoop earring, but rather than loop down and around, they hug the ear,
leaving little to no space underneath the earlobe. In other words, they still have a circular shape, but
they are a thicker and smaller version of the traditional hoop.
Ear Cuffs

An ear cuff is a type of earring that travels along the outer curve of the ear. They can travel along the
top curve of the ear, they can start at the middle and travel down to the earlobe, or they can travel the
entire length of the ear from top to bottom. They typically contain multiple connection points, but other
variations include a series of earrings that are evenly spaced along the ear curve.

Bajoran

They typically have two connection points, one at the earlobe and one on the upper portion of the year,
these two points will be connected by a chain. Sometimes the chain is only long enough to make the
connection, while other chains may hang down. Other times there may be multiple chains.
Threader

A threader earring looks like a piece of string that goes through your earlobe and dangles down on both
sides. Sometimes that’s all it is, but other times there may be a stone or another decorative piece
hanging down from one end.

Cluster

Cluster earrings are decorative earrings that are comprised of several different gemstones or beads that
are grouped together in a “cluster.” These might be in the form of a stud, or they may dangle down from
the earlobe.
Barbells

Barbell earrings are shaped like actual free weights, and in their most basic form, a metal rod connects
two small steel balls. Often times, these “balls” are actually in the shape of something to appeal to
different style preferences. Sometimes they are skulls, and other times they are stars. Barbell earrings
are straight and rigid, but they can be worn at almost any two points on the ear. Most of the time you
will find them at the top, but the can also be worn down the side.
Bracelets
Alternative Health Bracelets

These bracelets are not related to illnesses such as allergies or diabetes, but instead to all-natural health
solutions. They are usually broken down into four different types: power balance hologram bracelets,
karma bracelets, magnetic bracelets, and ionized bracelets. All of these bracelets have been proven to
have some type of medicinal use and can make the wearer happier and experience less pain and fatigue.

Bangles

A bangle is simply a type of bracelet that has no beginning and no end, much like a ring, so it has no
clasps or other ways to open and close it. You simply place it on your wrist by gliding it over your hand.
Beaded Bracelets

The beads installed on the bracelet come in different sizes, shapes, and colours. They can be dark or
light, large or small, solid-colored or printed with designs. They can also be paired with other items,
including gems, silver spacers, and even pearls.

Braided Bracelets

Braided bracelets are particularly popular with men because they are often found in colors such as black
and brown, and they can present a more masculine image than other types of bracelets. Usually made
of leather or some other type of flexible material, they can be braided in numerous patterns.

Charm Bracelets

Charm bracelets are extremely popular because the wearer can personalize them to show off certain
interests and hobbies. Better yet, charms can be large or small, silver or gold, plain or printed in a
unique design. You can find charms for hobbies related to sports, music, occupations, and even political
persuasions.
Tennis Bracelets

Tennis bracelets are bracelets made entirely out of diamonds, although the size and shape of the
diamonds can vary from one bracelet to the next. They usually come in either silver, white-gold, or
yellow-gold, and because of the number of diamonds contained on the bracelet, they sparkle and shine
like few other bracelets do. They are also made in various designs and price ranges, so regardless of your
tastes or your budget, you can easily find one that will accommodate you. Some tennis bracelets contain
other gems in addition to diamonds, including sapphires and emeralds, so finding one that suits your
style is very easy.

Necklaces
Collar

Collar necklaces sit flush against the skin and rest directly above the collarbone. Contemporary collar
necklaces are thick and look similar to a collar on a shirt, measuring anywhere from 12 to 16-inches.
Average length: 14 inches

Body position: Sits just above the collarbone

Choker

The choker necklace can either sit very high on the neck or just below the collarbone. The later style
dangles more freely and is slightly longer in length. Chokers can incorporate other necklace styles on this
list by adding a pendant, graduating beads, or even adding festoon-like drops.

Average length: 16 inches

Body position: Sits high on the neck or rests on collarbone

Princess

Princess necklaces are defined either by their length or style. The length is longer than a choker but
shorter than a matinee necklace. The 18-inch length is thought to be the most universal and flattering
length. Any pendant or focal piece will usually rest right below the collar bones.
Matinee

Matinee necklaces are great for jewelry layering because they are longer than princess length and
shorter than opera length. These necklaces will fall somewhere between the collarbone and the center
of the bust.

Average length: 22 inches

Body position: Sits just above or at the center of the bust

Opera

Opera length necklaces are long and versatile. When they are worn as a single strand, the necklace
should fall below the bust line. Some longer opera length necklaces may even reach the bellybutton.
Average length: 30 inches

Body position: Sits just below the bust or near the belly button
Bib

Bib necklaces are usually collar or princess length. They consist of a wide front portion that rests just
below the neck. Pearls, beads, or gemstones are often sewn or set into the bib, creating fanciful designs
along the circular or triangular frame.

Festoon

Festoon necklaces are defined by their draping elements. This classically vintage style was especially
beloved by the Art Nouveau and Victorian eras. Delicate chains are accented with gemstones, pearls,
and precious metal. For the necklace to sit properly, the main chain should be choker length and rest on
the collarbone.
Lavaliere

A lavaliere necklace is a feminine pendant necklace that connects a dainty chain to a larger focal piece.
That main pendant also has smaller embellishments dangling from it.

Negligee

The main focus of the necklace is two irregular, asymmetrical drops that are connected to the central
pendant. These necklaces are generally longer in length.
Rivière

A rivière is a necklace comprised of one or two rows of precious or semiprecious gemstones. These
stones gradually become smaller in size as they reach the back. These are often collar length or princess
length.

Pendants
Casual Pendants

Casual pendants can be of any color, stone, metal, or design. If you want to look distinctive, then opt for
quirky and unconventional designs. You can also pick simple and delicate designs such as flowers, bows,
motifs, or symmetrical figures.
Statement Pendants

These are the most popular form of jewelry among youths all over the world. Easy to blend and layer for
everyday wear, these pendants are the perfect item for crafting a signature look. Statement pendants
are lately gaining popularity due to their contemporary chic design and a balance between the
traditional and modern styling approach. Available in various stones, color, styles, design, and metal,
these pendants gel perfectly with casual and corporate outfits.

Hamsa Pendants

Hamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern talisman symbolizing the “Hand of God.” Across beliefs, it’s a
protective sign that protects the wearer from the evil eye and misfortune. This pendant is believed to
offer success, happiness, health, and prosperity to the wearer. The five fingers of the hamsa hand
remind its wearer to use their five senses to praise God. Hamsa pendants are designed meticulously
with sterling silver, pearls, gold, and semi-precious gemstones.
Rings
Solitaires

Gemstone solitaires are one of the most difficult ring styles to find, since many people prefer additional
accents and details to accentuate the colored gem. One option is for a couple to purchase a loose gem
and have it set into a ring that initially held a diamond, or else to have the gemstone solitaire
customized from the outset.

Three Stone Rings

Three stone designs that symbolize the couple's past, present, and future are very popular with
gemstones. Many times, the two smaller stones may be a different gem, even a traditional diamond,
while the larger center stone is the gem of choice, or all three are complimentary or matching stones.

Eternity Rings

Using gemstones instead of diamonds for a full eternity band is far more affordable, and colored stones
can be arranged in symmetric patterns to highlight different hues for greater personalization.
Birthstone Rings

Birthstone gems can be used to represent the bride and groom, significant dates in their relationship,
and even the wedding date for a meaningful and colorful ring.

Figural Rings

Colored gems are perfect for creating figural designs, such as using marquise, oval, and pear shapes in
patterns to create leaves or flowers. Many gemstone rings also use colored gems as part of animal
figures to highlight eyes or other distinctive traits.

Right Hand Rings

Any creative ring design can be classified as a right hand ring, particularly if it uses gemstones. These
styles may incorporate geometric elements, elaborate patterns, filigree details, or other gorgeous
accents to create a ring totally unique to the wearer's personality.
