The scope of study was only one organization PHOENIX FINANCE &
INVESTMENTS LIMITED
1.4. Methodology
1.4.1. Sources of Data: Data was collected from the company profile and direct
interview of Deputy Managing Director of M. Shah Alam and 30
employee’s.
1.4.2. Design of Questionnaire: the questionnaire was designed by Kamrul
Hassan who is our OB teacher and a blank copy of questionnaire is attached
in the Appendix.
1.4.3. Use of Statistical Tools: We used Frequency Distribution Table and Bar
Chart to analyze the collected data.
1.5. Limitations
We had a limited time, money, data and experience. Data which is confidential in
nature was not provided to us.

2. Organization
2.1. History of the organization
Phoenix Finance & Investment Ltd. (former Phoenix Leasing co. Ltd.), one of the
leading and reliable multi-products financial institution in Bangladesh was
incorporated in Bangladesh on April 19 1995 as a Public Limited Company under
the Companies Act, 1994 and started its operation on May 9, 1995 as a Non-
banking Financial Institution named as Phoenix Leasing Co. Ltd. under Financial
Institution Act, 1993. It has changed its name to Phoenix Finance and Investments
Limited (PFIL) from February,2007 with a view to reflecting multi-dimensional
financial activities of the Company and keeping a parity with the activities as it
has been doing other than lease financing, which although, has remained as the
prime area of the financial activities.
The Company has also diversified its products and services to such other areas as
Housing and Real Estate, Bridge Financing, Short term and Mid Term Loan and
start up working capital to cater to divergent needs of the economy. The Company
operates a SME Branch in Dhaka for promoting small and medium enterprises
(SME) exclusively for alleviation of poverty through creation of employment and
generation of income on a sustainable basis. Besides this, PFIL has also 25%
ownership of a Brokerage Company namely Phoenix Securities Limited having
membership of DSE and the CSE to further diversify its investment activities

Their managerial structure is hierarchical so the authority or the power goes from
the top to bottom. Chairman, Managing Director and Directors are the top level
management here. From company secretary to asst. manager are the midlevel
managers and from executives to department supervisors are the lower level
managers. At the bottom of the managerial structure are the workers or employees
of the organization. The diagram is given below to understand their organization’s

PLANNING:

Planning involves defining the organization’s goals, establishing an overall
strategy for achieving those goals, and developing a comprehensive set of plans to
integrate and coordinate organizational goals. It is concerned with what is to be
done and how it is to be done.
CHAIN OF COMMAND:
In the Phoenix Finance and Investments’ chain of command geos down from the
the top to bottom. To control an organizations works it is very important to
manage it’s operations through chain of command. So to maintain chain of
command chain 3 things are very important. They are:
Unity of command: The management principle that each person should report to
only one manager.
