AIX Enterprise Edition is designed to
simplify the process of managing vir-
tualized AIX environments by includ-
ing AIX 6 and enterprise manage-
ment functions into a single, easy to
order offering.
By offering AIX 6 in conjunction with
enterprise management capabilities,
clients can get all of the virtualization,
security, availability and manageabil-
ity features associated with AIX 6,
and all the enterprise management
features of the WPAR Manager,
TADDM, Tivoli Monitoring and Usage
and Accounting at an attractive price
compared to purchasing the individ-
ual products separately.
AIX Enterprise Edition is designed to
be used in conjunction with IBM
Systems Director to provide platform
management capabilities and is ideal
for clients who are moving up to AIX
6, and adopting PowerVM
virtualization technologies to control
IT complexity and growth.

Monitoring
Management Edition for AIX, with
IBM Tivoli Monitoring monitors the
health and availability of Power™
Systems servers, providing rich
graphical views of the AIX operating
system, Logical Partitions (LPARs),
the Central Electronics Complex
(CEC), the Hardware Management
Console (HMC) and the Virtual I/O
Server (VIOS) resources in a single
console, delivering robust monitoring
and quick time to value.
Out-of-the-box best practice solutions
created by AIX and VIOS developers
are included. These best practices
include predefined thresholds for
alerting on key metrics.
In addition, AIX Enterprise Edition in-
cludes Expert Advice that provides
an explanation of the alert and rec-
ommends potential actions to take to
resolve the issue, and the ability to
take resolution actions directly from
the Tivoli Enterprise Portal or set up
automated actions. In addition, users
have the ability to visualize the moni-
toring data in the Tivoli Enterprise
Portal to determine the current state
of the AIX, LPAR, CEC, HMC and
VIOS resources.
AIX Enterprise Edition provides the
capability to store performance moni-
toring data to visualize historical per-
formance metrics in the Tivoli Enter-
prise Portal.
Power Systems Central
Electronics Complex (CEC)
Availability and Health Resources
Monitoring
Shows an inventory of CEC
resources and resources allocated to
individual LPARs on the CEC. The
Monitoring Agent for CEC monitors
the number of LPARs, CPU and
memory allocations per LPAR, LPAR
state, operating environment and
CEC modes.
AIX LPAR Availability, Health and
Performance Resource Monitoring
Monitors the availability, health and
performance of key AIX system
resources: LPAR configurations,
CPU, memory, storage, network,
printers and NIM.
Power Systems VIOS Availability
and Health Resource Monitoring
Monitors the availability and health of
the VIOS resources: LPAR
configurations, CPU, memory,
storage and networks. It also shows
storage and network mappings
between the VIOS Server and its
clients.
Power Systems HMC Availability
and Health Resources Monitoring
Monitors the availability and health of
the HMC resources: CPU, memory,
storage and network. Also monitors
the availability and health of the
Hardware Management Console
(HMC) resources: CPU, memory,
storage and network.
Discovery
AIX Enterprise Edition, with
IBM Tivoli Application Dependency
Discovery Manager (TADDM)
provides details of the Power
Systems environment resources and
builds application and physical
topology views. Moreover, it enables
seamless management of resource
system configuration, and
configuration compliance.
For the Power Systems environment,
it provides OS configuration, physical
relationships between operating
systems and network switches, and
logical relationships between
application components. This
information is created and
maintained using an agentless
approach and visualized through an
intuitive graphical user interface. The
application maps are comprehensive
and include complete run-time
dependencies, deep configuration
values and accurate change history.
IBM Tivoli Application Dependency
Discovery Manager (TADDM) pro-
vides visibility into application com-
plexity by automatically creating and
maintaining application infrastructure
maps. The TADDM application maps
are comprehensive and include run-
time dependencies, deep and cus-
tomizable configuration values and
accurate change history. Ultimately,
TADDM delivers more than data; it
delivers integrated, meaningful
knowledge you can use to transform
your business.
With TADDM, Power Systems sen-
sors enable you to gather configura-
tion information from currently sup-
ported Power Systems servers and
provide improved understanding of
the Power Systems configurations
and relationships to applications and
business services. TADDM support
for the Power Systems virtualized
server platform includes:
− Hardware Management Console
(HMC)
− Virtual I/O Server (VIOS)
− Integrated Virtualization Manager
(IVM)
− Power Systems servers managed
by the HMC
− Logical partitions (LPARs) config-
ured on each Power Systems
server

Usage and accounting
AIX Enterprise Edition includes the
IBM Usage and Accounting Manager:
Virtualization Edition for Power Sys-
tems to facilitate the process of col-
lecting and reporting usage informa-
tion on Power Systems servers to de-
termine which business units, de-
partments or even individual users
are consuming Power Systems re-
sources and how much they are con-
suming.
Today’s IT departments face unparal-
leled pressure to operate as busi-
nesses. Pulling it off successfully re-
quires aligning IT costs with company
priorities—and the ability to charge
individual departments for use of key
applications, servers and other IT re-
sources.
However, accurately measuring IT
resource use has long posed a chal-
lenge, with chargeback products typi-
cally unable to work effectively in to-
day’s distributed and virtualized com-
puting environments.
IBM Usage and Accounting Manager:
Virtualization Edition solves the prob-
lem for IBM Power Systems clients
by providing an extremely flexible tool
that helps improve IT resource allo-
cation. With it, clients can truly un-
derstand their IT resource usage by
tracking and allocating usage by de-
partment, user and many additional
criteria.
The product aggregates and reports
on Power Systems servers, so or-
ganizations that wish to consolidate
their servers can now virtualize con-
fidently, with the ability to accurately
understand related usage.
IBM Usage and Accounting Manager:
Virtualization Edition for Power Sys-
tems also creates Web-based reports
with an instant drill-down capability.
Workload Partition
Management
The ability to manage AIX 6
Workload Partitions across mulitiple
systems is also included as part of
the AIX Enterprise Edition through
the Workload Partitions Manager for
AIX (WPAR Manager) component.
The WPAR Manager is designed to
manage AIX 6 WPARs across multi-
ple systems and to provide enable-
ment for Live Application Mobility.
The WPAR Manager allows an ad-
ministrator to create, clone, and re-
move WPAR definitions, or start and
stop WPARs from an easy to use
management interface.
WPAR Manager includes the
enablement needed to relocate a
WPAR from one system to another
using Live Application Mobility.
Live Application Mobility can be used
to relocate a WPAR without
restarting the application or causing
significant impact to the application
users.
Relocation of a WPAR from one sys-
tem to another can be performed
manually from the WPAR Manager or
automatically based on a policy that
uses processor load, memory
utilization and other system metrics.
One of the primary benefits of Live
Application Mobility is to improve ap-
plication availability by moving appli-
cations away from systems that need
to be shut down for planned mainte-
nance.
Live Application Mobility can also be
used to improve application perform-
ance and system utilization by
moving workloads from overloaded
systems to less used systems.
Live Application Mobility can provide
energy savings by moving the work-
loads from a server and shutting the
server down during off-peak times.
Better WPAR Manageability
The WPAR Manager is designed to
improve manageability several ways:

WPARs across the enterprise
− Create WPARs from scratch or
clone an existing WPAR to create
a new, similar WPAR
− Built in WPAR monitoring and
reporting
− WPARs from one system can be
cloned and deployed to other sys-
tems

AIX Enterprise Edition is designed to
complement the platform manage-

Architecture and
Prerequisites
There are no hardware platform re-
quirements beyond those required by
AIX 6.
AIX Enterprise Edition ships with AIX
V6.1 at a minimum level of Technol-
ogy Level 1.
AIX Enterprise Edition will run on IBM
Power Systems based on the
POWER4™, PowerPC® 970,
POWER5™ and POWER6™ proc-
essors.
Although there are no other prerequi-
sites, many of the features of AIX En-
terprise are designed to support cli-
ents that are using PowerVM virtual-
ization technology.
Many of the capabilities of AIX
Enterprise edition are available for
AIX V5.3 with the Management
Edition for AIX (product 5765-AME)
