1. Argumentative Writing Structure

Format

Hook (Can be in the form of a quotation,


statistic/ Fact)

Para1: Brief introduction of the topic + main claim (your


stance/which side are you on)

Para 2: Pro Arguments (Arguments in support of your


stance/ claim)

Para 3: Pro Arguments (Arguments in support of your


stance/claim)- minimum 3 pro arguments.

Para 4: Strong Counter Argument and Rebuttal (1-2 counter


arguments)

Para 5: Conclusion. Do not bring in any new information in


the conclusion. Just rephrase the previous mention points
briefly.

Note: Do make use of connectives/ discourse markers like


therefore, moreover, in addition to, consequently, in
conclusion etc.

2. Persuasive Writing Structure


Format

Heading (Relevant)
Hook- (Can be in the form of a quotation,
statistic/ Fact)

Para 1: Brief introduction + Statement of main claim (thesis


statement) for eg. I strongly believe smoking should be
banned in public places etc.

Para 2: View point 1 and View point 2 + evidence ( evidence


can be in the form of a fact, statistic or an example)

Para 3: Viewpoint 3 with evidence

Para 4: Viewpoint 4 with evidence

Para 5 : Conclusion- Do not bring in any new information in


the conclusion. Just rephrase the previous mention points
briefly.

Note: Do make use of connectives/ discourse markers like


therefore, moreover, in addition to, consequently, in
conclusion etc.

Use persuasive vocabulary, words like strongly, greatly


believe, I condemn; this wholesome practice must be
encouraged, this vicious habit must be eradicated
(removed from our society.
Use modal verbs that indicate will/ intention and desire/
determination for example, should, ought to, must, have to
etc.
