Innovations in The Teaching of English in Malaysia
On 6th May 2002, Tun Seri Dr. Mahathir -This was followed by the announcement
Mohamad (Prime Minister then) from Tan Sri Musa Mohamad (Education
announced that the government was Minister then) that a bilingual system
willing to reintroduce English medium of would be set up with English to be used
instruction “if the people [wanted] it.” for teaching Science and Mathematics.
-He went on to declare that beginning
January 2003, Malay-English
mixed-medium education would be
implemented in National schools in
Malaysia.
-According to Educational Satistics
(2007), more than 2 million Malaysians
attented 9,364 National primary schools.
Slightly more than 0.5 million attented
3,324 Chinese primary schools and more
than 130,000 attented 945 Tamil primary
schools.
The writer is wanted to imply that the government is working hard to improve the
standard of English of Malaysian.
