Is Homeschooling good for children?

Homeschooling is a progressive movement around the country and the

world, in which parents choose to educate their children at home instead of

sending them to the public or private school. Homeschooling becomes more

popular every day. There are about two million children currently learning at home.

However, homeschooling is not that good to be implemented for children.

Parents choose homeschooling to educate their children because of its

Flexibility in schedule, curriculum and its learning process. Parents nowadays believe

that homeschooling can make the schedule be more personalized. By using

homeschooling parents can set the schedule around vacation, illnesses, and other

events, so it will be more flexible for the kids or even the parents. Next, the

curriculum given by the teacher will follow the children’s needs and parents' hopes.

Parents could make the environtment of studying becomes like what they want or

what their children do. The subjects given will be delivered directly to the children

without facing any formal classes. Last, learning process will be more focus. The

class will be carried out only by a teacher and one or two children. Teacher will teach

directly to the children, so the children will undrestand well to the material given.

Even though homeschooling sounds good for the parents and the children, it

still has some disadvantages that need to be considered. First, Home-schooling needs

a lot of time in preparation and delivery. Parents have to research topics, prepare the

lessons, set up the projects and field the trips. As the result, when thinking about
putting children through home school, parents should make sure that they understand

all of the criteria involved in the home education. Next, Learning process will be so

boring for the children. Because children will only see the same view alone without

any friends diverting a little view to make the atmosphere becomes more fun. Then,

the children will have such lack of socialization. The class will be held only by a

teacher and one or two children which will make them feel isolated and confined.

They will have less of friends around because of the isolation. And one last thing,

homeschooling will incomplete their youth life. Children cannot feel how happy

hanging out with friends is, how fun going to the school with friends is, and how

excited waiting for someone at school is.

Nowadays, parents would like to home schooling their children because of the

flexibility in scedule, curricullum and its learning process. However, homeschooling

still has some disadvantages that need to be considered. Children will feel isolated

and defined because of the learning environment. Bore is such a thing that children

will feel in learning process, which will make them easy to find stress. At the end,

socialization is the most important part of human being to show human as a social

creature. Thus, giving homeschooling to the children is not a wise choice because it

will limit their social life.
