ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURES / EARTHQUAKE ANALYSIS

A. STATIC LATERAL FORCE PROCEDURE

-is a code guided (NSCP 2015) linearly elastic procedure wherein

forces are applied statically into the frame assumed to be a single
degree of freedom system.

B. PSEUDO DYNAMIC LATERAL FORCE PROCEDURE

-is basically a RSA (Response Spectrum Analysis) method wherein

the vertical distribution of earthquake forces are base on modal of
mass and stiffness. The analysis is still considered a static analysis.

C. STATIC PUSHOVER ANALYSIS

-is an iterative static analysis where a capacity spectrum may be

compared to a demand spectrum of seismic response.

D. MODAL TIME HISTORY ANALYSIS

-is a true dynamic analysis taking into consideration multi-degree

of freedom in computing for the displacement response of a
structure subjected to a specific earthquake history data.

208.5.2 STATIC LATERAL FORCE PROCEDURE

BASE SHEAR Old Formula

Eqn 208-8 need not exceed the following

and in addition for Seismic Zone 4 shall not be less than

and shall not be less than

where
208.4.4.1 SEISMIC ZONE COEFFICIENT Z:

The Philippine archipelago is divided into two seismic zones only. Zone 2 covers the
provinces of Palawan (except Busuanga) Sulu and Tawi-Tawi while the rest of the country is
under Zone 4 as shown in Figure 208-1 pp2-189. Each structure shall be assigned a seismic
zone factor Z in accordance with Table 208-3 pp2-188.
208.5.2.2 STRUCTURE PERIOD T

The value of T shall be determined by one of the following methods

1. METHOD A (Approximate method)

Note : hn in meters

2. METHOD B

Using structural properties and deformational characteristics

Note : Value of T in method B need not to exceed 30% of that T in method A in

Zone 4 and 40% in Zone 2.

208.7.2 STRUCTURAL SYSTEM COEFFICIENT R AND DEAD LOAD (WEIGHT) W (208.8.1.3)

R serves the same function as the Rw coefficient and K in the older version of the code.

W is the total dead load plus 25% of floor live load in storage and warehouse occupancies

b) Provide 5% accidental eccentricity.

c) Torsional Moments occur if the center of mass is not coincident with the center of rigidity.

d) 208.5.1.5 OVERTURNING Every structure shall be designed to resist overturning effects caused by
earthquake forces specified in section 208.5.2.3. Overturning effects on every elements shall be carried
down to the foundation.

where storey drift based on static or dynamic

analysis and using modeling requirements of 208.6.2
