The researchers’ “ADJUSTABLE JACKS STAND” is important because it will help the
mechanics as much as it can make the vehicle easier to lift because it has a jack stand
that is adjustable with lock to keep the vehicle from crashing The lack of features in
the current designs of of jacks affects the performance of mechanics. This research
provides a new design of jacks which fulfill the ideal standards; durable, and
functionable, also it contains more helpful features which can help to make work
easier and time saving.

After a long process of studies, the researchers analyzed, interpreted and made a
conclusion in the collected data, “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”, a new and better
design of automobile jacks passes the ideal standards as it results into overall
agreement of respondents. The highest mean recorded was with the factor
functionality as it should be that every equipment aside from being durable it is
expected to be functioning always in good condition, functionslity must be the first
priority and it is present in the “;ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”, followed by durability.
It can be concluded from the results that the “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND” is a better
design of an automobile jack repair tool compared to existing and ordinary ones used
in public TVL schools.
CHAPTER 1: THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

This product demonstrates the importance of how to accelerate the process of

raising the vehicle to repair its bottom. This product is important because it helps the

mechanics as much as it can make the vehicle easier to lift because it has a jack stand

that is adjustable with lock to keep the vehicle from crashing.

A jack is a mechanical lifting device used to apply great forces or lift heavy

loads. A mechanical jack employs a screw thread for lifting heavy equipment. A

hydraulic jack uses hydraulic power. The most common form is a car jack, floor jack

or garage jack, which lifts vehicles so that maintenance can be performed. Jacks are

usually rated for a maximum lifting capacity (for example, 1.5 tons or 3 tons). Industrial

jacks can be rated for many tons of load.

The researchers’ product will help mechanics to lift the height of a vehicle may

be adjusted and which is used to support an automobile that has been raised by a

jack.

Background of the Study

A jack is a device for lifting heavy objects, especially one for raising the axle

of a motor vehicle off the ground so that a wheel can be changed or the underside

inspected.
The difference between the researchers’ product on the jacks that are readily

available in the market is that the researchers’ product is safer and more secured it

does not use a ATP (Automatic transmission fluid) that ordinary jacks used because

the researchers’ product has a lock that will keep it upright and the car is safe to lift.

The personal name Jack, which came into English usage around the

thirteenth century as a nickname form of John, came in the sixteenth century to be

used as a colloquial word for 'a man (of low status)' (much as in the modern usage

'jack of all trades, master of none'). From here, the word was 'applied to things which

in some way take the place of a lad or man, or save human labour'. The first attestation

in the Oxford English Dictionary of jack in the sense 'a machine, usually portable, for

lifting heavy weights by force acting from below' is from 1679, referring to 'an Engine

used for the removing and commodious placing of great Timber.

Theoretical Framework
This study is anchored with the Input-Process-Output (IPO) Model which is a

functional graph that identifies the inputs, outputs, and required processing tasks

required to transform inputs into outputs. The model is sometimes configured to

include any storage that might happen in the process as well. The inputs represent

the flow of data and materials into the process from the outside. The processing step

includes all tasks required to effect a transformation of the inputs. The outputs are the

data and materials flowing out of the transformation process.

Hypothesis of the Study

The development of the “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND” is highly acceptable in terms

of its durability and functionality.

Statement of the problem

This product was created because the researchers found out that it is difficult

for a mechanic to mount the vehicle and not feel comfortable with a stand to be placed

underneath. The stand developed by the researchers is a product that will help speed

up production under the vehicle because with the help of this product the mechanics

will be able to operate more efficiently. The main objective of the study is to develop

an “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND” for automotive servicing students of Crecencia

Drusila Lopez Senior High School specifically it sought to answer the following

questions. Specifically it aims to answer the following questions;

1. How important is it to have a jack stand that is adjustable for mechanics in

repairing the bottom part of vehicles?

2. What are the benefits of using the “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND” to

mechanics and automotive servicing students?

3. How the researchers’ innovated products is different with the ordinary jack

stands readily available at the local hardware?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research would be beneficial to the mechanics and the automotive

servicing -grade-12 and the next generation of student in automotive in CRESENCCIA

DRUSILA LOPEZ SHS

Automotive Servicing Students may benefit from the “ADJUSTABLE JACK

STAND” because they also need to have skills in repairing under chassis of vehicle

for they are automobile mechanics in the future.

Specialization Teachers he or she may be able to train his/her students easily

because the jack is adjustable the vehicle will be kept afloat because of the durable

stand.

Professionals connected to repairing automobiles they may trouble shoot and

fix their autos easily and faster.

Future Researchers may utilize the findings of this study in a similar study that

they may be conducting that would also provide the necessary program for the

upgrading and needed innovations that are perhaps long overdue

SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This research focuses itself to the study and development of the

“ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND” in CDLSHS (Crececia Drusila Lopez Senior High

School) for the school year 2019-2020 in terms of acceptable factors: durability and

functionality.

This study however, is limited to Automotive Servicing students of CDLSHS,

therefore, the problems and needs of other schools who also offer automotive

servicing were not included.

Data gathered for this study were collected over a period of two semesters and

though the researchers sought to assemble all the facts and materials for this study,

it is highly improbable that a complete study could be made at available time and

resources.
This study involved 30 respondents in CDLSHS as samples. They were given

a chance to try and test the “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”. They were task to answer

a survey questionnaire after testing the “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”, then the

feedback were solicited and collected after it data gathered were later analysed.

Definition of Terms

To make the study clear and understandable, certain terms have been

operationally and conceptually defined as follows:

ACCEPTABILITY - the quality of being accepted

tool. It is describe mainly as adjustable meaning that aside from the jack it has a stand

that can keep lifting an automobile.

CENTER COLUMN - the height adjustment of an adjustable jack stand.

DURABILITY- the quality of staying in a good condition over a long period of time

without significant deterioration in value.

FUNCTIONALITY- The quality of having practical use, consist of helpful features.

MECHANIC - A person who repairs and trouble shoots automobile problems.

SAFETY PIN - ensures the slender pawl doest slide out of place and drop your car.

TUBULAR - of or involving tubules or other tube shapped structure.

CHAPTER II REVIEW OF LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter reviews the conceptual and research literature related to the present

study. The review focuses on the development of “the ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”

for automotive servicing students of Crecencia Drusila Lopez Senior High School and

the problems that they encounter which arose with the product innovation.

Scott M. Wensman (1994) invented a new and improved adjustable jack stand

with a hollow base support having an aperture formed through a front wall and extends

through a back wall. A plurality of support legs are secured to the base support.

Included in the invention is a hollow middle section having a plurality of apertures

formed through a front wall and through a back wall. The middle section is slidably

coupled within the base support. The plurality of apertures optionally align with the

aperture formed through the front wall and through the back wall of the base support

for securement therewith by a securement pin.

A hollow upper section has a cradle support secured thereto. The cradle

support serves to support the vehicle. A plurality of apertures are formed through a

front wall and through a back wall. The plurality of apertures optionally align with the

plurality of apertures formed through the front wall and through the back wall of the

middle section for securement therewith by a securement pin.

According to Timothy J. Lemirande (2004) Jack stands are used for many

purposes, one of the most common being to support a vehicle while it is being

maintained or repaired. Typically, a car is raised using a jack, and then a jack stand is

placed under the frame of the vehicle next to the jack, and the jack is subsequently
lowered and removed. One of the most common types of jack stands is the adjustable

variety that consists of a tripod base with a central telescopic member. A disadvantage

to most jack stands is they are bulky and awkward to store or carry. This is particularly

a problem for automotive specialists who must carry their tools to different sites, such

as racecar crews.

So, there is a need for a jack stand that is easy to store and carry.U.S. Pat.

No. 5,072,901, issued Dec. 17, 1991 to Lyle Scott, shows a pipe support stand for

supporting pipeline, the stand being stackable. The pipe support stand is a hollow

pyramidal body made of plastic with an arcuate recess in its top surface for receiving

the pipe and a pair of centrally located ribs on each side of the hollow body. U.S. Pat.

No. 4,548,418, issued Oct. 22, 1985 to Donn Wendorff, teaches a trailer support stand

made of skid bars having an open base and upwardly extending arms. The trailer

support stand has a triangular base and is also fitted with a trailer hitch.

U.S. Pat. No. 6,047,932, issued Apr. 11, 2000 to Robert Skvorecz, describes a

wire chafing stand that is stackable and constructed from steel wire. United Kingdom

Patent Application No. 2,102,362, published Feb. 2, 1983, discloses a vehicle wheel

hub support stand that is bolted to the wheel hub of an automobile. United Kingdom

Patent Application No. 2,391,209, published Feb. 4, 2004, shows a light vehicle safety

stand used in conjunction with a car jack featuring movable support legs.
CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter aims to illustrate and explain the methods used by the researchers

to fulfil the purpose of the study, it depicts the research design, research instruments,

data gathering procedures and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

A descriptive quantitative research involves the usage of survey questionnaires

distributed at randomly selected respondents. It is used to describe characteristics of

a population or a phenomenon being studied.

The descriptive research was used in the study to describe deeper the

acceptability of respondents to the innovated product “ADJUSTABLE JACK STAND”

for automotive servicing students in Crecencia Drusila Lopez Senior High School

(CDLSHS).

Quantitative approach was used in this study wherein the quantitative type of

research refers to a research that focuses on statistics .It involves numerical data and

statistical data and involves the measurement of data.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

Before the start of this study, the researchers first thought for a research

problem wherein a solution can be formulated, made, or applied. They consulted their

research adviser if the problem they thought is really a problem that needs to be

solved, and they asked help in finding related studies and literature to support the

study.
The researchers wrote a letter of approval to the principal and other teachers

in order to inform them and ask for permission to the researchers to conduct a survey.

After getting the approval, the researchers started to distribute questionnaires and

after it, collected data were used in the study.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

The main instrument used in this study to gather data is a questionnaire-

checklist, supporting by observation, documentary, analysis and unstructured

interview.

 Questionnaire Checklist

It was composed of three parts, part I is the letter of consent for the respondents

before they participate in the survey, the part II is the demographic profile

composes of name (optional), age, gender, and parent’s monthly income, and

the last part is the checklist which divided into four factors to be considered that

a drafting table is efficient to use: durability, functionality, safety, marketability.

 Unstructured Interviews

These are the informal interviews that were done by the researchers during the

distribution and retrieval of the questionnaire, it is also used to ask the major

problem faced by technical drafting students.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The respondents of this study consisted of 30 students from Grade 11

Automotive Servicing Students and Grade 12 Shielded Metal Arc Welding Students

from Crecencia Drusila Lopez Senior High School for academic year 2019-2020.

in a question. It is computed by adding all the data points in a population and dividing

by the number of points.

The mean formula is:

𝝁=∑ 𝑥

Type equation here.

M= ------------------

N
Where:

:∑ 𝑀𝑀 M-summation

X -answer of the respondent

N -total number of respondents

Percentage was used to make an interpretation to the respondents’ profile

such as age and gender. The percentage formula is:

P= f
-------- x 100
N
Where:
P= percentage
f= frequency
N= total number of sample
