Purpose
This document describes the application procedure for licenses of eSight products
in various scenarios and the way to use these licenses.
Symbol Conventions
The symbols that may be found in this document are defined as follows.

Updated 4.3.1 Loading a License File When the eSight License Is Valid and

following description:
In V300R007C00SPC502 and later versions, if the APM is deployed and the number
of objects managed by the APM is greater than 500, you need to manually restart
eSight after importing the license. In other cases, the license takes effect
immediately after being imported without eSight restart.

2 eSight License Introduction
2.1 Introduction to License Files

eSight controls functions of different editions versions using license files.
License files are authorized files generated by special encryption tools based on
information about contracts signed by customers and Huawei and information
about the server where eSight is installed. When customers get the license file,
then they manually load their license files to eSight to obtain the permission to
use eSight.
The following table lists license categories supported by eSight.

2.2 License Policy for Each Version
2.2.1 V300R010 Policies
● V300R010 inherits the SnS annual fee mode of V300R009. After the version is upgraded
to V300R010, the handling measures are the same as those of V300R009.
● The sales items of eSight Facilities Management License and eSight Application
Management License are deleted.
The following table lists the control item deleted from V300R010. (Other control
items are the same as those of V300R009.)

normal use of eSight, generate a new contract for V300R008, activate the license of
V300R008 based on the new contract, and load the license to eSight within the

● According to the requirements of the license SnS mode, if the upgrade crosses R
versions, the license file must be changed through the ESDP. After eSight is upgraded
from V300R007 to V300R008, the license automatically becomes invalid and eSight
enters a 60-day protection period. During the protection period, eSight functions can
still be used. After the protection period ends, you cannot log in to eSight. To ensure the
normal use of eSight, you must change the license version on the ESDP website and
import the changed license to eSight during the protection period. For details, see
"Applying for a Commercial License After Version Change."

To apply for a commercial license file by yourself, you must obtain the Huawei
guest rights on the ESDP. (For details, see A Applying for ESDP Permission.)
3.1 Applying for a Commercial License Using the

Activation Password
After purchasing eSight the first time or upgrading and upgrading eSight, you
need to apply for a commercial license based on the contract number.
During eSight expansion or upgrade, the ESDP will automatically combine existing
and new resources with the same ESNs. Therefore, the downloaded license file
contains the total number of resources.
Procedure
Step 1 Obtain the ESN of the eSight server. For details, see 5.1 Obtaining an ESN from
eSight.
Step 2 Log in to the ESDP (http://app.huawei.com/isdp/) and choose License
Activation > Password Activation.
Step 3 Enter the activation password.
1. Enter the activation password. If multiple contracts exist, click Add and enter
multiple activation passwords.
– You can obtain the activation password from the license certificate of the product.
An example is provided on the right of the page. You can move the mouse pointer
to the picture to zoom in on the picture.
– The paper license certificate is delivered with the product, while the electronic copy
is directly sent to the mailbox specified by the distributor that has signed the
contract with Huawei. If you do not have the paper or electronic license certificate,
contact Huawei's reseller and provide your contract number to obtain the
activation password.
2. Read and confirm the message. Select I have read the above carefully.
3. Click Next.

Step 4 Enter the ESN or click to select an existing device (NE) to obtain the ESN.
Separate multiple ESNs with commas (,). Then, click Next.
When you select an existing device (NE) to obtain the ESN, check whether the selected ESN
is consistent with the actual one.
Step 5 After verifying the activation information, click Activate.
Step 6 In the dialog box that is displayed, click OK. The system displays a message
indicating that the activation task has been submitted. Click Download to save
the license file to a local path.

3.2 Applying for a Commercial License After Version

Change
A version change refers to the upgrade of the eSight software version without
capacity or function expansion. 2.3 License Upgrade Paths lists version changes
that require license upgrade.
Collect the following information and contact Huawei technical support to obtain
the license file:
● Original license file. If the original license file is lost, handle the problem by
referring to 5.4 Obtaining the Original License File.
● eSight version. For details, see 5.3 Obtaining the eSight Version.
If the upgrade involves function or capacity expansion, you can obtain the license by
referring to 3.1 Applying for a Commercial License Using the Activation Password.
3.3 Applying for a Commercial License After ESN

Change
If the ESN changes because parts such as the network adapter of the eSight server
is replaced, eSight displays a message indicating that the license is invalid and
enters a 60-day protection period.
In this case, you need to obtain the current ESN of the server (How to Obtain)
and contact Huawei technical support to obtain a new commercial license file
from the ESDP.

4.1 Application Scenarios

● After obtaining the license file from the ESDP, you need to load it for the first
time.
● If the license file is invalid because it is tampered with, reload the license file
that is backed up.
4.2 Precautions
● After obtaining the license file for the first time, back up the file for future
use.
● In a two-node cluster, active and standby servers use the same license. You
only need to import the license to the active server and the system will
automatically synchronize it to the standby server.
● The following table lists errors that may occur during license loading.

5 Other Common License Operations
5.1 Obtaining an ESN from eSight

During license application, users must use the ESN generated by eSight to ensure
that the license file is valid. If an ESN is generated in other modes, the license file
is invalid, and it cannot be loaded to eSight.
5.1.1 Obtaining an ESN When the eSight License Is Valid

Step 1 Log in to eSight as an administrator and choose System > System Management
> License Management.
Step 2 Obtain the ESN on the License Management Page.
● Obtaining the ESN of a server
a. Click Obtain ESN. The page for generating an ESN is displayed.
b. Obtain the ESN.
▪ Obtaining the ESN for physical machine installation: Select the MAC
address of the network adapter used by eSight, and record the ESN
that is automatically generated.
Obtain the ESNs of other servers by entering their MAC addresses.

▪ Obtaining the ESN for VM installation: Record the unique ESN of the
VM that is displayed.
● Obtaining ESNs for a two-node cluster

Obtain the ESNs for MAC addresses of network adapters on the active and
standby nodes in a way similar to that for obtaining the ESN of a server.
Separate the ESNs with commas (,) when applying for a license for the two-
node cluster.
For the active and standby VMs, obtain the ESNs of the active and standby
VMs on the VM tab page.

5.1.2 Obtaining an ESN When the eSight License Is Invalid

Step 1 Log in to eSight as an administrator and click here on the eSight License Page.

Step 2 Record the server ESN on the ESN generation page that is displayed.
In the physical machine scenario, the ESNs of both the physical machine and VM are
displayed. In the VM scenario, only the ESN of the VM is displayed.
For the active and standby physical machines, you need to log in to eSight on the active
and standby servers to obtain the ESNs, and separate the ESNs with commas (,) when
applying for a license for the two-node cluster.
For the active and standby VMs, you can directly obtain the ESNs of the active and standby
VMs on the VM tab page.

5.2 Obtaining the eSight Software ID

You can query device (NE) details, export device (NE) inventory data, or download
license files on the ESDP platform based on the software ID.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the eSight as the administrator.
Step 2 Perform the following operations to check the software ID:
The software ID is displayed only when a commercial license is imported.

● Choose System > System Management > License Management. On the
License Management page, obtain the software ID.
● Click in the upper right corner of the eSight page and obtain the software
ID on the About page.

5.3 Obtaining the eSight Version

View the current version on the eSight page.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the eSight as the administrator.
Step 2 Click in the upper right corner of the eSight GUI to view the eSight version.

5.4 Obtaining the Original License File

Method 1:
Obtain the dat file (for example, license.20140425.171431.460) from the "eSight
installation directory/AppBase/etc/license" directory.
Method 2:

1. Log in to the ESDP (http://app.huawei.com/isdp/) and choose Equipment

(Node) Management.
2. Enter the ESN and click Search.
3. Select and download a license file.

A Applying for ESDP Permission
After applying for an account on the Huawei official website, you can obtain the
guest rights of the ESDP. The following describes how to apply for a Huawei
account:
Step 1 Log in to the Huawei official website (http://www.huawei.com/). On the login

page, click Register.
Step 2 Enter required information and log in to the registered mailbox to activate the
account.

Step 3 Log in to Huawei's new-generation platform for software authorization and

license management, that is, the ESDP (http://app.huawei.com/isdp/).

B Glossary
E
Equipment Serial A string of characters used to uniquely identify a
Number (ESN) piece of equipment and ensure correct allocation
of a license file to the specified equipment. It is
also called equipment fingerprint.
Entitlement ID The Entitlement ID is generated by the license
system for authenticating the user's identity
during activation. It is the only license key that
can be found on the ESDP.

License Serial A unique number that identifies a license file.
Number (LSN)
License Permission that the vendor provides for the user
in terms of a specific function, capacity, and
period of usage. A license can be a file or a serial
number. Usually the license consists of encrypted
codes. The operation rights vary according to the
level of the license.
License File The license file is an authorization for the
capacity, functions, and validity period of the
installed software. The license file is a .dat file
that is generated using the special encryption tool
according to the contract, and is delivered
electronically. The customer needs to load the
license on the device or software before the
functions supported by the license are applicable.

License Certificate It specifies the software authorization range and

protects the rights of buyers. The authorization is
protected by law. The buyers can use the software
in the specified range, but cannot exceed the
range (including product software version, feature,
capacity, location, and time).
Huawei license certificate is in electronic or
printed format and made together with the sales
contract. The certificate contains information such
as product name, authorization ID, and validity
period. The printed certificates are delivered with
the products. The electronic certificate in PDF
format is sent to the customers' email boxes by
the license management system.

PAC Refer to network equipment acceptance certificate
signed by the customer and Huawei after delivery.
Obtaining the certificate is one of the conditions
for starting ETM handover. The preliminary
acceptance certificates include but are not limited
to PAC, RFS, and PAT.
R
Revocation Code A character string that is generated after the
invalidity command is executed. The character
string can be used to change the ESN on the
license website. After the invalidity command is
executed, the license file is invalid.
S
Subscription and The commercial mode of the annual software SnS
support (SnS) fee consists of two parts, including software
support and software subscription, and the
complete software charging mode consists of the
annual software SnS fee and software license fee.
