The School has made important contributions to the
core areas of pure mathematics. Our research is
focussed on the central problems in mathematics and our
results are used worldwide.

We organise many research workshops every year,

including the prestigious four yearly International
Colloquium which is an unbroken series from 1956.

Our faculty are world renowned and have won major

national and international awards and give lectures at the
leading conferences worldwide. They serve on Editorial
Boards of leading journals and on important national and
international committees.

We have a thriving graduate and postdoctoral programme

and an intensive, highly successful summer programme for
undergraduate students (vsrp). Our alumni are faculty
members in leading institutions in India and abroad.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR MATHEMATICS

There is an acute shortage of high quality mathematical manpower in the

country.

To address this shortage, the TIFR in collaboration with the IIT Bombay has
started a new center called the National Center for Mathematics (NCM).

The NCM conducts schools for PhD students, for college and university
teachers and research workshops across all areas of mathematics in different
locations all over the country.

Thus far, more than three hundred such programmes have been conducted in
the last ten years. Thousands of students have benefitted from these
programmes.
