THESIS ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine the relationship between English spelling skills and
composition writing skills of the Grade VI pupils of Little Angels Montessori Learning Center (LAMLC)
of Atimonan, Quezon S.Y. 2017-2018.

Specifically, this research study sought to answers to the following questions:

1. What is the over-all mean scores of the Grade VI pupils in


1.1 Spelling skills
1.2 Composition writing
2. Are there significant relationship between spelling skills and composition writing?
3. What are the possible causes of spelling errors?

The respondents of this study were purposively taken from all Grade VI pupils of Little Angels
Montessori Learning Center. They were composed of twenty (20) pupils with nine (9) males and eleven
(11) female only.

The researcher used the descriptive method of research for this study because the researcher wants to
specify if a child good in spelling is also good in composition writing.

The researcher asked the Grade VI Adviser of Little Angels Montessori Learning Center (LAMLC) if the
composition writing activity chosen is applicable to his Grade VI pupils. The composition writing chosen
which entitled ‘’ My Ambition in life” Twenty (20) spelling words which are grouped according to their
level

After composition writing which entitled “My Ambition in life”. The researcher asked the Grade
VI pupils to the spelling test, these test were checked by the Adviser, a letter of notification signed by the
Adviser was personally given to the Principal of Little Angels Montessori Learning Center (LAMLC) for
her approval.
Every respondent were given each copy of English composition writing activities. The researcher
instructed the respondents to write at least eighty-five (85) words in composition writing then the
researcher distributed.
Another research materials for English spelling test which composed of twenty (20) items five (5)
items for Noun, five (5) items for Adjectives five (5) items for Verb, five (5) items for Root words and
affixes,

FINDINGS

Based on responses of the respondents, these were the findings of the study:

1. The overall test result in English spelling test of the respondents obtained a mean with the value
13.65 having a descriptive analysis of AVARAGE.

2. The overall test result in English composition writing of the respondents obtained a mean with the
value 11.4 having a descriptive analysis of AVARAGE.

3. There is no significant relationship between English Spelling Skills and Composition writing
abilities in spelling, pupils obtained the mean score of 13.65 and in composition writing obtained
the weighted mean of 11. 4. Using the Pearson r, the computed value was 0.33 with Low
correlation. When both mean were subjected to t-value, the researcher obtained the value of 1.48.
Thus the obtained relationship is not significant to the point .05. Confidence level, there is no
significant relationship between spelling skills and composition writing that’s why the null
hypothesis is accepted.

CONCLUTION

In the above findings, these conclusions were drawn:

Based on the findings, the researcher got a descriptive analysis of AVERAGE in English
spelling test and also in English composition writing test which obtained a descriptive analysis of
AVERAGE, that some pupils shows poor performance in spelling and composition writing, few
of them performed excellently.

There is no significant relationship between spelling and composition writing Grade VI


pupils who are good spellers are also good composition writer.

RECOMMENDATION

From the findings and conclusion, the researcher recommends the following:

For the School Administrator


 Determine the importance and effectiveness of English spelling and writing as a means of
assessing the language, intellectual and promotes active learning social well-being of the learners.
 Give emphasis in the use of spelling book as required parts of the school curriculum.
 Implement the different assessment method in teaching English spelling skills and also as writing
activity.

For the Teachers


 Spelling drills should be done every day in the classroom, so that the pupils will learn more
spelling.
 Should be well trained in problem areas of spelling and phonetics and work continuously to
improve students spelling by using Spelling book.

 Create writing activities use different strategies that will enhance the knowledge of the pupils in
writing composition, i.e. forming sentence, phrases, writing journal, writing a diary, etc.
 It is the responsibility of English teacher and syllabus designers to integrate all skills and sub
skills to secure the student’s writing competence.

For the Students


 Acquire more knowledge, skills and values in the class and eventually so can do a better
performance.
 Improve their knowledge, skills and abilities both in English spelling and composition writing.
 Engaged themselves on how will their performance in English spelling and composition writing
be evaluate and assess by your teachers.
 Tools may come in handy to enhance spelling skills like Flash cards, wall – charts, cassettes, CDs
and handwriting activities should be practice.

For the Parents


 Encourage their children to actively participate in essay, poem writing, and spelling contest
because it can help them to perform well in.
 Guide them to how to make themselves better in performing activities that is included in English
subject.
 Encourage their children to be expose to authentic materials and lot of training and practice,
because spelling is a skill that is learnt and mastered by much constant repetition.

For the Future Researcher


 Enhance this study by adding useful information in conducting research like studying other tools
and methods that will help to improve teaching English spelling skills
 Develop this research by studying assessment tools and methods on other subject areas.
 Make the pupil as the respondents of other studies to let them discover on how their teachers
assess their performance.

For the Researcher


 Strive for more insights concerning positive implications of spelling and writing in the
development of the pupils which he could take in to great consideration to be an effective
educator.
