THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Climbing plants are plants which climb up trees and other tall objects. Many of

them are vines in which its stems twine around trees and branches. These plants have

existed since the first upright support plant appeared on earth. These are among the

obvious life forms in tropical rainforests, lacing tree canopies to climb the dark interiors

of forests (Climber plants: medicinal importance and conservation strategies, 2016).

Climbing plants occur in all woody ecosystems and play an important ecological

role in the ecosystem. They contribute substantially to canopy closure after tree fall and

help stabilize the microclimate underneath (Schnitzer and Bongers, 2002). Lianas in

particular add considerably to forest plant diversity and provide valuable habitat

connectioins among tree canopies that enable arboreal animals to traverse the tree tops

(Schnitzer and Carson, 2001). ….

THE PROBLEM

Statement of the Problem

The study aims to enumerate and determine the uses of climbing plants in

Barangay Anajao, Argao, Cebu for the year 2020 as basis for a proposed program in

conserving climbing plants.

To attain such level of understanding, the following specific objectives are

proposed:

1. Determine the species of limbong plants found in Barangay Anajao, Argao, Cebu;

2. Survey the utilization of climbing plants; and

3. Propose a program to conserve climbing plants.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The proposed research study results will be beneficial to the DENR, future

researchers, resident of barangay Anajao, and students of barangay Anajao.
