As the PCs arrive, they see the slave ship

depart from the base and head south. The
hobgoblins fight to delay them from pursuit
and take to the air in their skyship if possible
to escape.

Encounter 3 – Puzzling out Thunderspire

Arcana (moderate DC12): The Mages of

Saruum are a secretive order and among
wizards, it is known that they operate a base
in a mountain called Thunderspire.

History (hard, DC 17): Thunderspire was

once a kingdom of minotaurs that fell in the
distant past when they were overrun by
denizens of the Khyber. It is rumoured in
several quarters that they built a vast
labyrinth beneath their kingdom and that
they possess stores of treasure hidden
there.

Nature (moderate, DC 12): Direction of the

airship leads to the Ironroot Mountains about
200 miles away. Given relative speed and
altitude, it looks like a 3-day journey by air.

Streetwise (hard, DC 17): The Bloodreavers

are known as slavers all over Khorvaire.
They attack without warning and carry off
slaves for sale. It is unknown where they
sell their slaves, but since it is rumoured that
there is a black market in Thunderspire, it
makes sense that they trade there.
