Design and Implementation of Helmet to Track the Accident

Zone and Recovery using GPS and GSM

Introduction:

Smart Helmet for Motorcyclist is a project undertaken to increase the rate of road safety
among motorcyclists. The idea is obtained after knowing that the increasing number of fatal road
accidents over the years is cause for concern among motorcyclists. In India more than 37 million
people are using two wheelers, since usage is high, accident percentage of two wheelers are also
high compared to four wheelers. Motorcycles have high rate of fatal accidents than cars or trucks
and buses
.
Existing System Proposed System
 Nowadays the two wheeler accidents  In our proposed system the two wheeler
are increasing. The helmet wearing for is linked with the helmet.
two wheelers are compulsory. But most  The rider must put the helmet then only
of the riders are not obeying the rules. he will able to key on the vehicle
 The police monitor the helmet wearing  The rider should not consume any
and collecting fine, still that’s doesn’t alcohol before driving. If he drunk then
make any change. the vehicle won’t get start.

Drawbacks of existing system Advantages of proposed system

 If accident occurs the chance of death is  If accident occurs there is a chance of
more when the rider is without helmet saving the life.
 There is no link between the helmet and  The system wont allow to drunk and
the two wheeler. drive
 Drunk and drive is a major drawback  Highly secure

Working principle:
This paper has described the design and implementation of a vehicle tracking module to give
information about the accident and tracing of the accident location in real time. As in helmet the
transmitter section detects the accident and sends necessary information to the receiver section.
Then the received signals will be decoded in the RF decoder. Then the decoded signals will be
transmitted to microcontroller. Microcontroller controls the incoming signals and performs
necessary actions as coded in it. If the rider meets with a normal mishap then he can switch off
the buzzer otherwise after certain delay the information about accident is send to ambulance
(108), police station and rider’s relatives by using GSM module along with GPS coordinates.
The system was able to experimentally demonstrate its effective performance to track the
accident location anytime from anywhere. Furthermore, our implementation is low-cost that is
based on easily accessible off-the-shelf electronic modules.
